my girl is 42 days pregnant. should i seperate her now from my other dogs. Yes she has had all tests done clear of everything commen in her breed.
i would just like to no what other people do at this stage as its my first time and hers thankyou
Hi Debbie,
My girl is on day 52 and she isn't separated from the others on the house or garden. I had stopped her free running with the others from day 21 because she is an absolute nutter and play "slams" into the others !!
She is now on sedate 10 minute lead walks and its enough for her.
Some people run the dogs from start to end but I don't as we had a litter aborted because a slam had caused a foetal death resulting in death of the others.
HTH, Aimi.
Hi, my bitch is on day 40 and it's our first time too... She has supervised time with my other dogs now and I've stopped her playing with toys with them. I am interested to here experienced breeders thoughts.
hi thanks for your answers. my girl is a nutter also. i think im going to stop her playing as she plays really rough and my other dog pinns her down.
Im worried now hope they havent done any damage. it would break my heart.
may i ask what breed you,s have and have you had the girl x rayed and if so on what day
i just seen your from bury aimibobs. my mum is from there but she moved to liverpool. were always there hornby street she lived i love bury its a funny little town lol
Ahh, in Walmesley. About 2 miles from me then!

Mine are not separated from the others until they are actually whelping. I have even found some bitches would not stay in the whelping box during first stage wanting to stay with the others until literally a puppy was arriving.
Not a problem for me as the whelping quarters are only in the next room with just a door and dog gate between.
On the other hand if interactions between the others and the pregnant bitch indicate separating them would be wise then do so, but if your dogs live communally ans will expect to return to that the less separation the better except for not allowing access to teh pups by the others in the early days of puppies lives (two to three weeks).
I always keep mine together until the time of whelping. And I exercise them with the others too - I let them do what they want to do. I will never forget the sound of "boobs" slapping as one of mine went chasing off after a rabbit in the last couple of days before whelping :)

My girl is on day 46 and I've made minor modifications at bedtime, but during the day she is with the rest of the dogs and will walk with them for as long as she is comfortable to do so.
All my dogs usually sleep in the bedroom with me, and this is where Esme will be having her pups, so I've put a baby gate at the bedroom door to keep her in and the rest out. They now have the run of the place. I live in a bungalow, so everything is on the one level, and so far 2 have slept in the hall (next to the bedroom) and 2 have taken up position in the living room (on the sofa).
