Hi everyone
I just wondered if I can take 37.1 as a temperature drop, we are day 64. This last week my girl has been a really consistent 37.9, rising to 38.5 some evenings.
On waking today her temp was 37.3 then 37.2 at lunchtime and 37.1 just now, is this the temp drop heralding the start of labour or does it need to go below 37, the BOB says below 37 but I wondered if there were any breed specific temps as well.
Thanks in advance :o)
My girls temp was 37.2 on day 62 and stayed the same, it didnt drop any lower or rise again, she whelped on day 63.
Mine is a toy breed.
Somebody with more than one breed might be able to give you more info tho.
My girl was due to whelp yesterday, but whelped Thursday ... only started taking temp on Monday. As it turns out she'd obviously already started dropping.
Mon 37.5, Tues 37.4, Wed am 37.0 pm 36.7, Thurs am 36.7 (& milk bar opening up!!) pm noon 36.8 and 10pm 36.8 ... first pup 11pm that evening.
My breeder friend/mentor always has success with guaging whelping on temp drop, she reckons once it drops below 37.0 then you're looking at whelping within 24 hours. It's been successful guage for her and now for me, last year's litter it worked and certainly did for this year's arrivals.
I know some people don't find it works for them, no idea whether it's a breed specific thing, anatomatically I'm not entirely sure why it would be, but certainly in my 'lines' it seems to be a very good predictor of puppies arriving soon! Hope this helps a bit :-)
If I were you'd I'd be at checking temp morning, afternoon and evening.
