you can go on the agilitynet web site and they have a list of clubs on site if you put your postcode in they bring up the list nearest to you, i am not sure if wilton dog club has a agility section still, this saturday the 14th of may there is a weeks long show at redcar rugby club you could go along there and ask thelady that runs it chris hare where there club trains she may be able to point you in the right direction hope this helps

Your choices of KC are really South Durham who I think still meet at Dogs Trust Darlington, Wilton at Redcar, Cornforth (at West Cornforth near Sedgefield), there are other people who run non KC - one at Redcar and I think one towards Thirsk.

There's a big show at Redcar Rugby Club this from Friday - Monday and then again Thurs- Sunday. Go along and see what we get up to, it's Hare n Hounds (not a KC club) who run it, but South Durham have the license.  Ask in the secretary's marque and there will be all the local clubs represented at the show.

If you get really keen, there are other private training around, one I go to at Barnard Castle.

Directions to show = schedule I think is on agilitynet if you're interested, if you can't find it let me know and I'll send it to you via email.

DIRECTIONS TO VENUE
From the North
From the A19 take the exit signposted 'Whitby, Redcar, Teesport A174' staying in the left-hand lane eastbound.
** Stay on the A174 for approx 7 miles, then at roundabout take 3rd exit signposted 'Redcar, Saltburn, A174'.  At next roundabout take 3rd exit - 'Marske, Saltburn, and A174.  Go straight on at the next roundabout - A174.  The next two roundabouts are close together.  At the first turn left signposted 'B1269 Redcar, Marske', and then move immediately into right hand lane to go directly to the 2nd roundabout and take the 3rd exit signposted 'Marske'.
Proceed over the next roundabout into Marske and at the next roundabout take left signposted 'Redcar- B1085'.
Continue along the coast road for about 1 mile.  When you reach the houses on the left, take first left into Green Lane. Go straight over the roundabout.  Club and venue are at the top of this lane on the right.
From the South
A1M onto A19.Take exit signposted 'A174 - Teesport, Thornaby, and Redcar'.  Take 3rd exit signposted 'Redcar - A174' then follow directions as from ** above.

There are various classes at "The Dog House" at Cold Hesldedon (near Seaham, so about 30 mins up the A19 from Midllesbrough/Stockton)

yes, but it's indoors (on carpet like at crufts) so watch out unless you've a small or light dog, I'd only do that occasionally :-( depends how keen you are... the chap near Thirsk is excellent trainer

There is a new agility venue at Washington, too, with a sand and fibre loose surface (a bit like for horses), it's called Cleverpawz, but may be a bit further than you want to travel?

Yes, not sure if Lucy is offering training, but you may be better going to an established trainer first then using facilities like hers when you know more what you're doing.

Can we take pet dogs as spectators to the agility comps...obviously they will be kept on the leads:)

Theres a competition not far from where we live this weekend and we are going to have a look.
- By Harley Date 14.05.11 12:26 UTC
Taking pet dogs with you will depend on the event. If the show is solely an agility show all unentered dogs have to be declared NFC if it is a KC show. Some unaffiliated shows will allow pet dogs without having to declare them and if the agility show is a part of something larger and not just agility then you may be able to take pet dogs to it - it will depend on the rules of the governing event.

If you look on agilitynet there is a show diary and you can look up the show on there to obtain details of the show secretary's phone number and they will be able to tell you if you can take pet dogs along - normally NFC dogs belong to those running another dog in the show so not entirely sure on the postion for spectators' dogs.

We went to the Redcar Agility show today and took all 3 of our dogs to watch....met some lovely, friendly people from all over the country including a lady from Plymouth, where I was born.

My 3 dogs were kept on the lead and very well behaved, although Lucy the JR talked to all the dogs she met and cheered the dogs doing agility!!
We also met Chris Hare who lives not far from us and her son, whos very funny.
I knew Cavaliers liked doing Agility, but never expected to see so many.

We had a great time and bought some treats for the dogs...Cheese, Marmite and Garlic (which smells lovely) and Corned Beef and Double Garlic, which the dogs love.

ETA
Also met the lady that has just started her own agility classes in Washington, with her gang of Cavaliers:)

That's Lucy from Cleverpawz who I mentioned above.  If by any chance you saw a couple of pugs they are part of my pug family.
- By toffeecrisp [gb] Date 14.05.11 16:25 UTC
We saw a couple, but didnt know if they were competeing as they were off to one side.

Yes, Lucy was very nice.

1 would be competing - Niko -Bunty goes along to be his cheerleader, and Bumble (one of mine) is there to acclimatise to the atmosphere of the agility world as he is staying with Karen.  I bred all 3, Niko and Bunty belong to Karen (who does agility).  Hopefully Bumble will start competing in agility in the autumn with my nephew.  We are acutally trying to get together a team of pugs doing agility, and they have started lessons at Cleverpawz.

Great you made it, sorry I didn't see you... not sure who Chris' son is, son-in-law she has, daughter Jenny, sister Debbie (and husband) - all lovely.  I had an enjoyable w/e with my sheltie getting her first clear round and 4th place :-) otherwise two very difficult courses saw my (older now) G6 collie getting round and two 6ths for him, the others had a great time!  Are you back Thurs -Sat? It's all on again!
- By toffeecrisp [gb] Date 17.05.11 11:27 UTC
We might be able to get down again on fri/sat, depending on what hubby is working this weekend.
We didnt like to ask to meet you as it was so busy.
- By PennyGC [gb] Date 17.05.11 11:44 UTC
oh no, always happy to meet people, however busy - occasionally I may be rushed to get dogs run, but then you can always stand and watch whilst I do! It should be quieter than last w/e
- By toffeecrisp [gb] Date 17.05.11 13:39 UTC
Will try to get down... OH hasn't decided whether he's working Fri or Saturday.
He thinks we'll be able to get down Saturday.

Looking forward to meeting you:)
- By PennyGC [gb] Date 17.05.11 16:38 UTC
