Hi all,
Alfie had another lot of blood tests this morning, and a urine test. His urine is getting more concentrated, showing that his kidneys are beginning to work for themselves now, but still needs to get a bit more concentrated.
His urea and creatinine levels are now within the normal range!! BUT, while his liver enzymes were slightly raised on Friday, when he was first tested, they have actually gone up a bit more, meaning (if I understood the vet right) that the toxins from the Ibuprofen have concentrated into his liver. It's not as bad as it sounds though, apparently, since the liver is very good at repairing itself- I just need to keep an eye on him, and his blood/urine will be tested again in 2 weeks.
I've just spoken to an aromatherapist who was recommended by Alfie's breeder, who is going to 'test' a sample of hair (ever tried cutting a hair sample off a Whippet? There's not enough hair!) and send me some oils to try on him for detoxification- don't know if it will help but it's worth a try!

So glad to hear your good news. And glad Alfie is getting better. How is he in himself?

Hi Gina,
he's very tired, not depressed, more like a contented kind of tired, and very cuddly. The first night he was home and it was time for bed, he crawled into his sleeping bag ( on the end of my bed!), flopped down and let out a huge sigh- I think he was very glad to be home!
He's eating well, trying to steal the cat's food, playing with the others a little, and even barked at one of the cats today, so I know he's feeling much better. He's just gazing adoringly at me now so I must go and give him a cuddle.........

Don't know if this is any help but Loppy my rottie x is on antibiotics at the moment, a fairly heavy dose, and he gets milk thistle tablets to help his liver cope as advised by my homepathic vet.
Maybe you want to check it out? Christine Spain may also know more than me
Good luck, glad to hear he is getting better.

Thanks Theresa, a friend actually suggested Milk Thistle as well today, so I'll look for some tomorrow. Can you get it from a chemist, or only from health shops?
Liz
Hi Liz, heres a link about what helps liver damage/disease. I think you might be best going to a health shop & you could maybe get some of the other vits as well. A couple of my other books also say VitC. By the way I give my lot this as I believe it`s an immune booster.
