Hi, my cavaliers are currently shedding for England :-( It is driving me insane as no sooner have I hoovered, hairs seem to appear all over the floor again. Their hair is taking over my life - or so it feels ! I give them all a good brush every morning with a slicker brush and go over their coats with my hoover attachment whilst I am hoovering lol. I have read a few threads on here about the furminator, with mixed reviews and most of them were made a few years ago. I was wondering if anyone would recommend one for my breed ? Or anything else for that matter.

The Furminator is great but should not be used on single coated breeds. It works by removing the undercoat so without one you'll damage the coat. Hence I can use mine on my Malinois and Golden but not on the Papillons and Cavalier.

Ok thanks, I won't bother getting one then. Think I will just leave my hoover permanently plugged in for now, ready for switching on throughout the day ;-)

I have used one on my sisters Cavalier, she isn't shown so we don't have to worry about her coat in any particular way but we find it great for taking out the winter coat and she seems to like it too :-)

Are they entire or do they have the neutered thick wooly coat? I find a Coat King jolly useful for the woolly type, and I've also used it on my entire bitch who drops coat before a season. In fact last time after she had the singleton puppy her coat went so dead, sticking out and dull looking I actually handstripped her, it looked brilliant afterwards, all sleek and shiny again!

Oh right thanks for the advice. I have one spayed bitch, she has a very thick coat (since the op) but it does not have that woolly texture that cavs often get after spaying, it is actually straight and sleek. Funnily enough, two of her daughters from her first litter who are in pet homes have developed exactly the same coat since they were spayed too. Tbh handstripping seems like a good idea for her !
