Noticed a few days ago otto looked to have a thinning patch of hair on the side of his back. Gave him a good brush today and on closer inspection realised that he had one on both sides, not quite bald but almost, skin flakey and a little red about the size of a 50p. Have applied some sudocrem, odd that it should be symmetrical, any ideas. Many thanks.

Seasonal Alopecia
Hypothyroidism
Ring worm

Could be any of the above or non of the above....
Might be worth a vets visit to rule out hypothyroidism or ring worm.

I thought under active thyroid too as altered hair with symmetrical thinning in flanks is a classic sign.

We had this recently and Vet found nothing, sais its a seasonal thing. It has now almost grown back. Similar thing happened last year too . Guess it depends if any other symptos which our dog did not have. In females it can be a hormonal thing.

My guess would be seasonal flank alopecia...................the bane of m life!
