This is purely and simply a rant!!!!

One of my girls had a litter of 13 pups 19 weeks ago. This is the same girl who had a litter of 14 last year and suffered from gangrenous mastitis the first time and mild mastitis (coz I caught it before it developed) the second time. I was waiting for this season and then having her spayed but the dozy fella forgot to shut the lounge door and my boy got to her on her very last day! He only just entered her for a millisecond and jumped off instantly when I shouted him leaving a deposit on the floor.

So off to the vets yesterday for the mis-mate injection just in case. I know the likelihood of a pregnancy is slim but I can't put my girl through another litter as the last one really took it's toll on her and she is still not up to peak health and fitness and for the love of gad can I tone her undercarriage back up despite lots of hillwork.

Well my vet said that the injection is only reported to be 70% effective!!  Oh god I feel sick. I now have to wait. I'm so upset I just want to punch him in the face repeatedly!

Which injection did he use as I understood the newest 'Alizin' is more effective and in fact is more effective given later, as ti can be given up to 6 weeks in whelp.

I would get her scanned at 4 weeks (with a reliable experienced scanner), and if she shows any signs of being in whelp make sure it is Alizin they give her, not the older less effective mis-mate injections.

Alternatively, but not ideally she could be spayed right after the scan if found to be pregnant.

Alizin should be close to 100 % effective. Like Brainelss says, far better than the old style injections.

Lets hope that it is zillion to one chance with it being the last day along with the injection too.

Try not to be too hard on hubby, human error is always there especially from others not tuned in to thinking every second about taking precautions with an in season bitch, we are very good at multi tasking whereas men (sorry men) just aren't. The times my hubby and boys have left dog gates open after a second of distraction I couldn't even count, luckily never with an in season bitch or an un-neutered male in the house but I have no doubt otherwise accidents could happen.

He didn't do it on purpose or because he didn't care he was just not tuned in to look out for her like you are, so forgive him. :-)

When I go out for the day I even leave an A4 piece of paper by the kettle with big black lettering saying check the dog/cats have water in their bowl, because things like that are just not second nature to them, no matter how many times you say it.

Fingers crossed your girl is fine, yes I'd want to rant too, but hubby didn't do it on purpose. :-)

Have to say my OH is perfect :) -but my stepson on the other hand.........!!! I'm thinking of trying to sell him on Ebay. I might have to pay the winning bidder though! ;)

Seriously though, accidents do happen, we get angry, it's life.

It's the reason I just won't risk keeping both sexes, first it was the offspring, now replaced by hubby, who is another who doesn't think things out.

Again checking water bowl is nto automatic.

At the moment the problem is feeding the two pups.  I put them outside with their food, but check they have finished before opening the back door again for the adults to go out again.

Came down from the loo, back door open everyone doing their doggy thing.  "did you check they had finished their lunch", umm no.

Same here - he's actually pretty good I must admit, but I do feel the need to check he has remembered to feed them / give them water etc, just in case! Try not to be too hard on him Sleepwhatsleep, he's only a man! Hopefully your girl will be fine.

Hope everything works out sleepwhatsleep.  lol'd at all the tales of OHs :-) That's why I traded mine in and didn't bother with a replacement!
