Have recently met a 2 gsd/mals both under a year old and owned by the same person. Phew I hope the owner can manage them very nice but boistrous atmthey certainly have a handful there.
What worries  me is how they came by 2 of the same cross so close in ages or is this becoming a common cross with all the others

couldnt they have been siblings?

Someone I know is getting a gsd/mal/collie. GSD/Mal seems to be very common as of late.

Extremely common cross (assuming you meant Malinois with "Mal"!) with working people and sadly also with irresponsible breeders, they don't sell and you can pick such pups up for around £150 at the moment "ideal family pets". :(

I didnt...I meant alaskan malamute (blush)

Sorry I meant malamute and I doubt they were siblings 6 months apart.  Lovely dogs I would seriously worry if you would get the best traits of both or the worst . Why not have one or the other or indeed oneof each with a good gap unless you are very experience which the owner could have been I supose

A lot seem to be bred around here in the south, very difficult dogs to train, taking on the Malamute side of things rather than GSD..

There's a GSD/Akita (apparently an accidental mating) near us, stunning looking dog and very well behaved. He actually looks like a giant Tervueren!

I must say I am seeing more and more huskys and malamutes around a recently and not in th ebest of places. Are these going to be the next status dogs ?

Definitley have been around here for the past couple of years, most are crosses.

Massively popular cross, in large part due to the popularity of northern inuits/tamaskans/utonagan IMO.  Those lovely money-breeders saw a niche in the market for wolflike dogs and started crossing GSDs with huskies and mals.

Quite often I've seen them described as 'the look of the husky/mal with the trainability of the GSD' - total marketing ploy.  They can turn out like that - equally (and more often IME) they take after the husky side.  Friend of mine has two brothers, GSD/sibe crosses - they take after the husky side and are insane and bluddy enormous!

They are all over the place here too, they've been building in popularity alongside the crosses, again because of the look - people want a more wolflike dog but they just aren't putting any consideration into the dogs' temperaments or their original purpose.  Oversized ones are popular too, which is even worse IMO - all that energy and independance but bigger and even harder to handle if they aren't trained right from the start (and many aren't).

Given that very few people who own well bred health tested dogs would allow them to be used for this type of enterprise I am very worried for the owners of these crosses - imagine having to dealing with this cross with epilepsy or HD lets hope for those owners it remains imagine and not actual.

it beggars belife really , but i do think its just money the so called breeders are after , in the last few weeks we have had newfie x huskies , rotties , anatolian shepherd dogs and poodle crosses what next but i feel for the new owners and rescues in 12nths time

Nova sadly it is not to the imagination it is real !!  I know that with certain types of these crosses they are health testing some but results aren't great.

Yes, did know of lots of cases of epilepsy, far more than you would expect from the same number of GSDs. It is not something you can test for you just have to know the background of the animal being used for breeding which of course these bank book breeders do not. They also seem to have more temperament problems than one would expect from an equal group of GSDs think that is because a nervous GSD is a dangerous GSD and as I said before the animals of true quality will not be used in these "experiments"
