There seems to be several dams lately who won't clean the pups, have you tried smearing something tasty like meat paste, soft cheese etc on those areas to get her going, if she doesn't do it then you will have to or they won't go if not stimulated and will become upset and restless.

Basically give her as much food as she wants, but not too big portions. I would normally feed a newly whelped bitch about 6 times a day.

well as long as she is cleaning and licking their bums that will stimulate them to do their poos as long as their pooing just wipe it up give her time she might eat it but if she does nt then youll have to wipe it up,but dont worry as long as she is cleaning thei bums theyll be fine(not a job id fancy either)

It can take a day or two before they are good at the bum cleaning.

I use wet wipes to ensure none of it dries and makes them sore, but by about the second or third day Mum has got to grips with licking long enough to clean as well as stimulate.

My Lexi for the first two days would screw her face up as if to say you don't expect me to do that surely.  After she did clean them she would gag!!!

Ellie seems to have it all sorted now, we are on day 3, and all is going well.

Thanks again x

Good, it isn't as automatic for some of our girls.

I have a two week old litter and for the first few days I had to clean the pups to help them go to the loo and then Mum just started to do it herself. She did have a c-section though so this is probably why she didn't at first. I am sure your girl will end up doing it herself in the end but in the meantime you must take on the role. Edit : Oops, just seen your latest post, great news :-)
