Hi

We keep haveing a few pups at a time with runny Bums they are 6 weeks old on solids (Since between 3-4 weeks with Mums Milk).

They eat very well and are full of energy no one seems ill and they are gaining wit really well. We have used Panacur and dosed correctly at the usual times. Can I do what I do with a aldult dog and feed less food mixed with boiled white rice to calm the stomach or is this not ok for Pups?

They play in our enclosed garden and assume they have eaton a leaf or something silly that has upset their stomach?

I would take thier temperature to make sure nothing is 'brewing' if this is normal then I would feed a light meal such as white fish and potato and lay off the milk just give water at this age, for 24 hrs.
Remember you have to be care with young puppies and if you feel uneasy about anything the vet should be your first port of call
.
You may be giving them too much food for thier tiny tummies which can result in the runs, remember no treats and try sticking to thier puppy meal when they are back to normal dont deviate with trying other titbits.

My puppies in every litter have ALWAYS had the runs sometimes with blood. I have always used good quality puppy foods too.
This litter who have been a nightmare to wean and are eating literally anything and still with mum at 6 weeks seem to be fantasic and no runs!!
But yes I agree always becareful where the runs are concerned and keep an eye out. As soon as someone looks unwell I always take a trip to the vet just to be on the safe side.
I have used all the anti runs potions but none have worked.

Hi

We will take to the vets tomorrow if we still have runny bum Pups just for a check up but I have a feeling there wont be a great deal they can do as they don't appear to be ill at all except for what they are passing.

I have only fed Burns Puppy Food Minibites with warm water so use a good quality food. One that had the runs the worst now has the best stomach so not sure really what the reason is, I have just fed a meal of half qty normal pup food mixed with drained boiled white rice hoping this will calm the stomach.

Interesting what one of you have referred to about eating to much as we let them eat four times a day and if they are not full give them more. I may control this more and see if it is as you say to much food, thank you.

Bet they are eating too much ! Cut back the food and see the poops firm up :-)

some will eat until they burst! you are the one in control of how much food they require for a good healthy puppy. Some puppies are bullies :) and foodies that love to push others out of the way or spread thier legs so that they get a little more food ..that is probably why some have had the runs not all because they are eating more than they need.I stand over the litter when eating to make sure everyone get thier fare share.

I've always fed to appetite, would never feel right restricting intake in puppies at this fast growth stage.

I have had some soft 'Mr whippy' stages with some pups, but it soon settles.

Actual diarrhoea I would be looking at Guardia infection if worming up to date and otherwise well, if unwell then Campylobacter both not uncommon in puppies.
