i own 2 of these dogs a male and female  both just under 12 months old zak the male is laid back and obtiedient on and off the lead . ruby my bitch on the other hand is a different kettle of fish she seems to suffer from selective deafness during training sessions tried all combinations of treats and rewards to get her attention focussed but to little avail . have heard this is common in border bitches until the age of 2 has anyone had this problem with a border bitch

I think it fairly common in any terrier and you are lucky the boy is so obedient as having two the same age they will be naturally more focused on their relationship with each other than you.

i have had quite a few border terriers and never had any problems with recall with the bitches i cant advise on what to do though as i had mine from pups and they never left my side apart from when to fetch a ball, so its not because she is a terrier all dogs can be trained to a good standard it just takes more time with some breeds, i also put alot of time into them when they were small, a dog will never learn as much as it does in the first 12 weeks of life
