.... I would post in case people use them here. I looked up Millophyline (the drug Molly is taking) and they cost £11 odd for 100. Vet charged me £9.81 for TWO tablets and £11.22 for 1 injection. Plus emergency fee - well it was New Years Eve and vet working all night so cant moan about that as he was doing a good job poor man - very busy.
Cant work out profit cos am enumerate :) but not bad a?

Edited - cant be vet charges £490.50 for 100 tablets instead of £11.45 can it? Surely not?

I don't know but my vet has been just the opposite. I brought two dogs to him for neutering last Saturday and he charged me only half of the usual cost to spare me some money for New Years Eve. :) Didn't go out though ;) .

I once took Molly to the vet with little lumpy spots round her eyes when she was quite young. The vet we saw took such a shine to her, frantically wanting to clean his ears, etc! (yes shes a staffie! :) ) and the fact it was only a touch of doggy acne that he said NO CHARGE

so i said how kind he was and ran before she disgrased herself!! :D :D :D

I would never knock a vet unless I had good reason and I havent really had yet - when Molly choked about 5 mths ago I got the vet out of the gym and met him at the surgery and he didnt charge me anything. I was just wondering if my sums were correct cos it is a good profit for tablets for the emergency vets (they only take emergencies or referrals for the vets in the area apparently and are not a vets (if you understand me - Baileys getting to me :) ).
Glad you did okay with your two Taylor - bit of Scots in you for saving the money and not spending it on New Year? or may be not as it was Hogmaney. I've a Scots dad who would never NOT go out LOL

Nay, Gina, I would have loved to go out but I live in rural Ireland and a woman on her own in the pub, ohoh, the implications :D. Did it once and will NEVER do it again. I'll spend the money on dogfood. :)

You will have to get a mate to go out with you, you cant stay in forever. All the BEATLES are on TV makes me feel young again :)

Hi Gina,
Just wanted to say that tablets and pills are not always high costing because a vet sells them. The newer drugs that are under patent/copyright coverage are ONLY distributed by the original manufacture. They set high fees to reimburse themselves for Research & Development, Advertising, cost of making the stuff, and whatever else they decide.
It's when the drug can be manufactured by generic or secondary drug makers that the price will drop.
For instance 8 years ago, I was given Prylocec for esophogial problems. If I hadn't had military medical coverage, I would have paid $45 a PILL in the civillian sector! A 30 day coverage came in the bottle, but I was required to take 3 pills a day... so 90 pills = over $4,000. Absolutely ridiculous!!!!! But because no one else could make the medicine and it really worked wonders for the quality of life... they could charge that much.
So I don't always blame vets for drug costs... Some do raise the price and make a huge profit, but there are a lot who don't.
regards,
toodles

Hi Eog.
My vet thought it was really expensive for 2 tabs and, as I said, they are only £11.45 for 100 on the internet. It wasnt that I was worried about paying for them - it was just a shock that they could make so much profit out of 100 tabs if two are £9.18!!! Too simple and trusting may be :D
