What are your thoughts on it then?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 29.04.11 15:30 UTC
Loved it. There's no nation in the world can touch us for pageantry. Stunning dress - and it all seemed to go perfectly.
- By LJS Date 29.04.11 15:37 UTC
It was a lovely day and both the sister dresses were stunning and it is rare that I ever say that for wedding and bridesmaids dresses.

I did think the best part though was the drive back to Clarence House in the Aston Martin ! What class :-)
- By Harley Date 29.04.11 15:42 UTC
Personally I really liked it. I thought it was great to have something good in the news for a change. The media's cover of the lead up to the wedding was rather too extensive for my personal tastes but the coverage of the actual day was great.

Whatever one's views on the Royal Family are I think Great Britain is experiencing a day to be proud of  and that the majority of the rest of the world is looking on with great respect and reverence. The crowd was full of people who had travelled from all parts of the world to be there on the day and I believe one of the presenters said that over two billion people would be watching the event on television - a phenomenal achievement in itself.

I thought the ceremony was not too "official" and that Kate and William struck just the right note between an official royal occasion and a wedding between two people with ideas of their own who wanted to have their own perfect day carried out in the way they wanted within the protocols of what was expected of them in such a prominent public role.
Kate's dress was beautiful, understated but elegant as was she herself. They both looked very happy and I wish them all the best for the future and hope they can continue to lead their lives in the manner they have achieved so far.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 29.04.11 15:50 UTC
The moment when she stepped onto the balcony, saw the extent of the crowd who'd come to see her, and said "Oh wow!" was something special.
- By kayc [gb] Date 29.04.11 16:06 UTC Edited 29.04.11 16:14 UTC
Loved it.  magical, romantic, understated.  They are a beautiful couple, and she had her fairytale wedding :-)

I agree, beautiful dress and the bridesmaid's dress was gorgeous too.  Real classy.  Her Mum looked lovely as did Camilla! I expect I will watch every re-run!!  :)  :)
- By Goldmali Date 29.04.11 16:14 UTC
Enjoyed it. :) Switched off at 1.40 pm when the BBC stopped for a while, thinking there's only SO long you can sit on the couch in your nightie eating Pringles, when the floors still needed washing. :D So missed the Aston Martin -thank goodness for YouTube. :)
- By suejaw Date 29.04.11 16:23 UTC
Did enjoy it..Maybe a bit too traditional for me, especially when they said Man and Wife!!..

As for the Chief Bridesmaid, her dress was exquisite, so much so that i'd love to have one just like it made for me..

Over all, yes for some reason something funny must of come over me as I actually enjoyed it and now to find my own Prince Harry ;-)
- By Nikita [ru] Date 29.04.11 16:24 UTC
Didn't watch it.  I am all for it - and very good luck to them, they seem to be a lovely couple - but I had the dogs' chiropractor here so missed it!

I do think the country has gone a bit OTT with the publicity surrounding it and I must admit that's gotten on my nerves a bit but I do agree, no-one does it like us :-)
- By HuskyGal Date 29.04.11 16:30 UTC
My Highlights:

~Without a doubt the interior of the Abbey looking like nature had crept in for a peep at the Royal couple, particularly the Altar with the Wisteria etc.
~Of course my colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Force on 11 of our (stunning) Greys in the Royal escort.
~The Aston Martin and Sea King Helicopter!
~British pride and unashamed flag waving.
~Prince Harry (laughing and chatting all the time, and when nobody knew what to do when he was trying to get rid of his order of service as they walked down the aisle! Saved by the Sultan of Brunei who grabbed it off him.)
~Prince Charles holding up the little Bridesmaid so she could see on the balcony.
~Two kisses!
But most of all The Westminster Abbey Verger doing cartwheels down the aisle! :-D
- By MsTemeraire Date 29.04.11 16:33 UTC

> ~The Aston Martin and Sea King Helicopter!

There was a Sea King? I missed all of that, didn't really watch it. But my late dad would have been proud of that moment, he was an electronics design engineer for the Sea King during its development at Westlands many years ago.

> ~Prince Harry

The one and only MAJOR highlight really HG!!! ;-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.04.11 16:34 UTC
I've always been a closet royalist, much to my own families and other half's disgust, LOL

ROFL!
- By bevb [gb] Date 29.04.11 16:45 UTC
Loved Prince Harry.   His hair had me in stitches.  It could have done with a cut, but even more so a comb putting through it at least. It looked like he had just rolled out of bed. Ha Ha
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.04.11 16:48 UTC

> It looked like he had just rolled out of bed. Ha Ha

Ah but that was half the appeal, set the mind to wondering what bed ;)
- By Oldilocks [se] Date 29.04.11 16:50 UTC
Yes, I have been converted to a Harry fan too!  :)  :)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.04.11 16:57 UTC
There's something very appealingly naughty boy about him, must be getting to that 'lady of a certain age' LOL
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 29.04.11 17:13 UTC
Must admit I switched on to catch the carriage and horse parade bit and did rather enjoy it - Kate really looked like she was happy and enjoying being a spectacle; William looked rather more nervous and unused to the attention which was a bit odd as he's the one born to it! Harry and the sister seemed to be getting on well, perhaps we can have another day off in a few years, haha!
- By suejaw Date 29.04.11 17:15 UTC

> set the mind to wondering what bed

If only that were mine.. lol
- By Lois_vp [gb] Date 29.04.11 17:44 UTC
Yes, really enjoyed it, no other country can put on these spectacular events like the British, that's for sure.

The only aspect I wasn't happy about was that the bride and groom lived together before the wedding. I know it's an old fashioned view these days but it doesn't seem right to me to have a big lavish wedding when they've effectively been 'man and wife' for quite some time !
- By ClaireyS Date 29.04.11 17:48 UTC

>Ah but that was half the appeal, set the mind to wondering what bed

sadly it wasnt mine :(
- By Rhodach [gb] Date 29.04.11 17:50 UTC Edited 29.04.11 17:55 UTC
I watched it live online and thoroughly enjoyed it, 30yrs ago I watched Charles and Di, I so hope history doesn't repeat itself.

Did anyone else hear an American commentator say that one of the guests in the Abbey was Mohammed Al Fayed, couldn't have made a bigger blunder, her fellow commentator put her right by saying who the person was and adding that the Al Fayeds would not have received an invitation.
- By Cava14Una Date 29.04.11 18:01 UTC
Loved every minute of it :-D
- By Harley Date 29.04.11 18:21 UTC

> The moment when she stepped onto the balcony, saw the extent of the crowd who'd come to see her, and said "Oh wow!" was something special.

I thought that was such a special moment too JG :-) It was probably also the  moment when Kate realised the true extent of what marrying into the Royal Family will mean for her :-)

I was so glad that the moment didn't make her utter anything other than the comment she came out with - a stronger comment would have been beamed all over the world as we could all lip read what she was saying :-O :-)
- By Paula Dal [gb] Date 29.04.11 19:00 UTC
I thought it was lovely, they do truly seem to be in love.

Only thing that was missing was some beautiful spotty carriage dogs trotting along with the Windsor Greys and the happy couple LOL :-)

I thought it was all wonderful. I wish them every happiness. So lovely to have something really nice happening to feel glad about!
- By Floppyears [gb] Date 29.04.11 19:17 UTC
Loved every bit of what I saw. Did anyone else see the loose horse canter past in the parade? I wonder what happened there?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 29.04.11 19:21 UTC
I thought i saw one cantering past but only caught a glimpse of it's back end - I didn't see that it was loose. I just thought something had startled one of them.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 29.04.11 19:31 UTC
An American friend asked who was the woman wearing the antlers! Not the most attractive hat!
- By Harley Date 29.04.11 19:39 UTC

> Did anyone else see the loose horse canter past in the parade? I wonder what happened there?

Yes I saw that and then thought I must have been mistaken.

As for the hat JG I thought it was awful. A lot of people seemed to be wearing their hats stuck to their foreheads instead of actually on their heads :-) but I look ridiculous in any type of hat so shouldn't be so judgemental :-)

- By MADDOG [gb] Date 29.04.11 20:39 UTC Edited 29.04.11 20:41 UTC
Wasn't going to watch it but managed to be hooked to it for a good couple of hours!  Was a bit confused as to why the PMs wife was not wearing a hat, surely there was a dress etiquette?

Loved the bridesmaid on the balcony with her fingers in her ears ;-)

For a cynic I have to admit they looked very happy & natural.  Yes, I even I smiled when Kate said "oh wow" to the huge cheering crowd when they emerged from the balcony.

ETA - we watched most of it, then had to go out, arriving back for the 6 o'clock news, my DD (8) who wanted to see the "kiss" walked in just as they were showing a clip of the happy couple leaving the Abbey, she turned to me & said, "wow, that was a really long service mummy!" :-D
- By Floppyears [gb] Date 29.04.11 21:15 UTC
Thankyou for the footage. I actually thought I had dreamt it even though I rewound it three times, the children still couldn't see it.

> Just proves that money can't buy taste!!

Certainly not enough to outwit the genes :)  Her mother always had dodgy dress sense.
Sat in the Abbey, the light above cast shadows from the two downward points of the hat onto her face.  Together with the panda eye makeup she looked like the lead singer from Kiss! :D

Ohhh so that'swho she was! Mum & I thought she must be related to the Queen, sat right behind her, but the hat was beyond belief. Her (sister?) sat next to her was also a bit distracting.

But that hat looked like it had been made out of the flesh-pink foam stuff that hospitals make slings out of.
- By Norman [gb] Date 29.04.11 21:43 UTC
LOL at the hat.  I managed to sit through a couple of hours but then had to make a start around the place before guests turned up
- By HuskyGal Date 29.04.11 22:31 UTC
Pass the Cart wheeling Vicar some more Tea..!

That was one of Fergie's daughter's the other had the most awful dress.
- By judgedredd [gb] Date 30.04.11 05:37 UTC
was that the viviean westwood dress that one of fergies daughters was wearing
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 30.04.11 06:34 UTC
A Vivien Westwood 'mistake' more like! Honestly, the pair of them looked like the sisters from Gormanghast!
- By Carrington Date 30.04.11 06:34 UTC
Oh, I thought it was wonderful, wasn't Kate beautiful and so elegant, dress was perfect, she was the perfect princess, very together, beautiful smile, the boys looked fabulous, I loved every minute of it. :-)

Loved the fashion parade of all the guests, the outfits and hats/fascinators were wonderful, just a few niggles....... (well, you've got to have a few :-D ) the lady with the too short skirt/dress. (Not appropriate) Beatrice and her hat, what!......... Perfectly fine for Ascot but not a Royal Wedding, (not any wedding) Prince Andrew should have told her to take it off, he should know better, (I wonder if her mother had a hand in that hat?) Anyhow, it was a very silly choice.

Victoria Beckham looked very elegant, but did you see those shoes, how can anyone pregnant wear shoes that high, how did the lady walk in those? I salute her in the name of fashion. :-D Not too sure about a long ponytail for a Royal wedding, think she should have worn her hair up or down. And I agree Prince Harry needed a hair brush, where were the people looking after the boys, once they took their hats off they should have had someone sort out their hair quickly.

Not much to niggle about, it was a fabulous day, I bet the atmosphere in London was terrific to hear those bells, the horses and see them all in the flesh must have been wonderful, if I could stand the crowds and the waiting around I'd have been there too.

They are going to be a very happy couple and Kate is going to be soooo.... good for the Royal family and especially for Prince William, may they have the happy fairytail marriage, Princess Diana never had.  ****Cheers!****
