Off to vet tomorrow with very itchy 3 year old bitch.  Spayed 8 months ago.  Booster given 3 months ago.  Frontlined 3 weeks ago.  Drontal Plus XL given 2 weeks ago.  Herbal flea shampoo yesterday despite no evidence of actual fleas on her.  Piriton for last 3 days.  She is fed on CSJ CP21 - sensitive, hypoallergenic food.

She has chewed hair from stifle and hock and has scabby bits - I think these are a result of chewing.
I'm wondering if its a pollen allergy as we walk in buttercup-covered fields and my black suede boots are now yellow!

Anyone used this York test and/ or have any idea of how many vets use this?

York Testing is just taking bloods and sending them off for analysis. 

Its a very effective way of finding out what/if your pet is allergic to anything.  They will check for indoor allergies. e.g. house dust/storage mites and outdoor ones, like as you say pollen, grasses, etc and also if there is anything in the food that they might be sensitive too, like wheat/gluten/chicken/beef/eggs etc.

They can be inhaled or in touch contact with or eaten so its abit of a minefield but this test will tell you for sure what the problem may be.

Yes, Yorktest can be useful to determine allergies, though isn't 100% reliable - but definitely worth doing.

Another thing to do is a comprehensive thyroid test as an underactive thyroid can often be the underlying cause of allergies and skin problems.

it can work out quite expensive if you opt to try the allergy vaccine - we got about £600 back from the insurance for Treacle's first year of treatment.

From what I can remember the actual York Test was about £200, app 3 years ago.  Add more for the vaccine...

As an aside, I'd recommend that anyone who thinks they may have a problem with pollen to wash their dog after every walk with a very dilute solution of Hibiscrub.  It's a very easy and safe intervention that make make a huge difference to your dogs comfort level.  If you don't have Hibiscrub even a hose down with water is better than nothing until you can get some.  There is a lot of pollen around at the moment
