My 4yr old Cav girl is in season..shes on day 16, has not swollen at all this season, is not flagging, shes very happy and healthy in her self, eating and drinking as normal..the problem Im having is the smell...I have never had a bitch and certainly not this girl smell so bad when in season. Does the smell get stronger as they get older or could there possibly be an underlying problem...she is going to the vet tomorrow and after explaining the symptoms, he seems to think its just a normal season with no swelling. She had a litter in January with no problems.
Any advice please.

We have been giving her baths every 2 to 3 days to try and help with the smell...she is very clean herself..just dont understand it.
No, the smell does not get stronger as our bitches get older, at least no bitches I've encountered, it's possible she may have an infection which is why bathing won't help, or even some old blood post litter, though I would have expected that to be long gone, your vet will take a swab and be able to tell, she may just need a course of antibiotics, your doing the right thing in taking her to the vet any change in smell should be checked out.
Hope all is well. :-)

Ellie smells stronger at certain times of her season, but she's not got stronger with age that I've noticed. Hope the vet can sort it out, might be worth insisting on antibiotics - you know if the smell is unusual for your bitch, whereas the vet may just think 'fussy owner' or something!

It doesn't sound normal to me. I have not had this happen with any of my girls, and if your vet doesn't keep bitches, it's an assumption that I wouldn't want to make. Agree with the others, insist on antibiotics.
Vets that talk about fussy owners are the bane of my life, if i offer advice through experience and a vet has played it down saying there are overly concerned and there is very little to worry about. Which has resulted in one dead dog and one critically ill when both could have been easily avoided if vets hadn't diluted my worries. If its not normal for her and vets dont prescribe AB's then get your self off to another vet. Having had 2 brushes with pyo in the last 2 months not my own girl thankfully but she was on AB's just in-case when i saw discharge.

Also worth considering an issue with Anal glands in case there is an infection there.
Hi everyone...Sorry for the delay in replying:)
All well here, just a very heavy bleed from her season, vet did give her antibiotics and took a couple of swabs to test, but everything came back normal. Shes not smelly anymore and bleeding is definitly on the way out.
Pyo was my main concern.
Many thanks for the advice:)
