One of our Toy breed puppies looks like she has tummy ache. She's not very settled, is crying a little, is only feeding a bit, has regurgitated a bit of clotted-looking milk and is not passing much poo.

The vet has checked her over and thinks there's nothing too badly wrong. She didn't suggest using anything because at 18 days she thinks she's a bit young for medication. I have to keep an eye on her, make sure she's not getting dehydrated and phone them tomorrow if I'm still worried about her.

I'm sure I've seen people recommend using something for tummy ache on here. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I can't think of the name right now but I have always used the colic drops that you get for human babies and given 2 or 3 drops and this has quickly sorted a puppy out.

yes i had a whole litter with colic because mum went on antibiotics. it was heartbreaking to see week old pups howling with tummy ache (made me cry). we gave 2 and a half mls of gripe water and also liquid paracetamol 4 times a day. this was recomended by vet. they were fine a few days later. gently rubbing their tums helped too

Thanks Sedona, I was sure there was something like that but I can't think of the name either. I guess I could go and ask in the chemist or maybe someone on here will remember it.

Oh yes, as tina just said Gripe Water is also good, I have also used it in the past.

Thank you tina s, I've tried rubbing her tummy a bit but will give it another go. We've already had bright green poos from the pups because mum was on antibiotics but she's finished them now and I thought things were looking up!

I've used Infacol on pups with colic. Just a tiny bit though and gentle massaging of tummy helped.

gripe water then put puppy on your shoulder as you would a baby and pat the back ..then turn over and give the tum a gentle rub.

good luck

Thanks everyone. I got some Infacol and persevered with the tummy rubs. She's much better today and even got up on her legs for the first time. They are starting to look like little dogs now. Phew!
