I didn't want to hijack Doodlepants' thread, so can those who use/have used G&C recommend a good brand that works? ( think I recall seeing something recently where high street brands were tested and found lacking).

My rescue girl can sometimes be a little stiff on her hind legs, whether this is old-age arthritis or an old injury I don't know but I feel it would be worth seeing if G&C makesa difference.

Thanks in advance :)

I was recommended Zipvit, which have been using for years now. They also offer a choice of freebies, when the order is over a certain amount.

We need Marianne (Goldmali), I'm sure she used a human brand but can't remember which one it was.

I've used Cortaflex (good but expensive for a big dog like mine) and Joint Aid which is fine too but I'm using it as a preventative rather than a treatment at the moment.

I use Superflex by NAF for our horse and it really helps her arthritic knee, you can get a dog version too which would be worth trying. We tried cortaflex with her but she hated it.

She is back - now that we've corralled the nukers - but probably hasn't seen this yet. She did mention something on the other thread but not sure if a brand was mentioned.

Don't want to jump into the pricier brands just yet as it's intermittent and seems to have improved now she's regained fitness, just thought some light supplementation might be worth trying.

I would be wary of giving my dogs Glucosamine after my experiences with it some years back.

I have osteoartritis in most major joints, left knee diagnosed age 20, as a nurse of nearly 40yrs in the job majority before there were any lifting aids my joints have taken a hammering so decided to try out this drug that was being raved about, luckily a friend had done the trials on her patients and warned me that quite a few developed diabetes which disappearred when the drug was stopped, I tested my blood weekly and for 18 months everything was fine, joints were not as good as I was expecting them to be but I carried on, then my blood sugar started to climb and even fasting ones were elevated so I decided I didn't need any more problems so stopped the Glucosamine and my bloods returned to normal and remain so today.

In 2006 I was told after internal inspection of my knees that I would be in a wheelchair within 2 yrs.[10yrs too young for knee replacements], I am still working 30hrs a week on a busy ward but now need heavy duty pain patches to get me through. My dogs give me a reason to keep myself mobile too.

For all the speciallists I have seen not one has mentioned starting me on Glucosamine or the likes which makes me think the medics don't have much confidence in it.

Funnily (?) enough the brand I used (well my Golden Dandy and my mum!) was one of them tested and said not to contain any chondroitin at all! But Dandy did SO well on them. I bought from Vitamins Direct, they often have special offers on, bought their human version, often got 3 tubs of 120 capsules for around a tenner! When that offer isn't on slightly more expensive but still way cheaper than from the vet. Dandy was on the same one for years.

BTW I was at match night that's why I'm late, won best junior with Peanut the Papillon and best veteran with Ripley the Malinois. :)

so decided to try out this drug that was being raved about

Glucosamine is NOT a drug.

Any medication is a drug, whether natural or manufactured, I know the word "drug" means something different these days but we still do a "drug round" on the ward.

I use Valupak Glucsamine & Chondroitin from Hyperdrug for 2 of my older girls with good results.

A friend uses Seraquin for her Springer with fantastic results.

Glucosamine is not a medication either. It's a supplement. Surely you don't refer to vitamins as drugs or medications? Same difference.

Not really replying to Marianne, just tagging onto the end, but Holland & Barrett have got an offer on theirs, it's £4.99 for 120 capsules atm. I find the capsules much better as I open them and sprinkle the contents on Sasha's food, she can find and spit out a pill from anything!!  I did look at the liquid but it was so much more expensive

I've found it's really helped with the stiffness which has started over the last few months.  Her arthritis was originally picked up on her hipscore at 12 months but has only really started having any effect on her recently at the age of 7 1/2.

I use 'Sasha's Blend' from my vets, used to use Serequin but heard this is even better.  My Rotty girl with bi-lateral ED is doing great on it.
