My 6 year old puppy (he'll always be my baby) has this illness and is on 100 mg of predisone and is nearly 120lbs. His head was a lil atrophy when I took him to the vet and the vet could open his mouth without the dog crying, 3 days later the vet could hardly open his mouth an inch without my puppy crying. He was immediately put on predisone and his head has become much more atrophy. Some say that it is due to the medication and it he will regain his muscle after the treatment, but my vet says otherwise. Also I have always given him supplements like fish oil, vit c and e, probiotics, et. His treatment is to suppress the immune system these supplements are to aid it. Has anyone dealt with this illness if so, what would you advise?

Can anyone help?
One of our very knowledgable Champdogs members has good experience of this condition. However she is away at the moment and it might be a few days before she can reply.
Her news is all positive, so if you can hang on in there I'll send her an email to see if she can reply when she gets back

Just to let everyone know I have exchanged e mails with the poster

Very sorry to hear this. What breed is your dog? If this disorder is the same as Polymyositis, then you should be able to get a lot of information about it from the Vizsla society and the Vizsla club as it pops up in the breed and is thought to be hereditary. There's lots of work going on to identify the cause (as well as treatment) and to develop a proper test for it. They also have a lot of knowledgeable people - some of whom are currently looking after dogs & puppies with this disorder.
Best of luck

He is a 6 year old purebred lab. I am trying to get as much insight as possible on this illness.
Hi Gale how is your boy doing? Our vet believes our puppy has the same condition. It is the most horrible disease
