What are you feeding him? Is he Licking it? Zinc deficiency can cause this, how much are you exercising him, as exercised should be strictly controlled in the first 12 months. This could also be behavioural if in the acral lick cycle or an allergy. How long has this been an issue?
Hiya
We feed him Royal canin giant puppy kibble....one vet has suggested zinc deficiency...when he was slightly younger he was being walked twice a day but now because of his feet he's only being walked once a day & only on grass. He has had biospies taken from one of his pads & the results came back as digital hyperkeratosis...we're off to see our vet tomorrow to disscuss treatment if any !
His paws have been causing problems really from the word go..we had taken him to our vets & they said it was just his pads toughening up to being walked & to keep them moist by using vaseline...we kept this up for a while but then decieded to seek advice from another vet who confirmed our worst fear of 'HYPERKERATOASIS' :O( . its such a shame cos he's such a loveable dog & i'm really sad that his life will be affected by this disease ...a disease that will never be cured !
you could get him some booties, try and keep him as lean as you can and does the vet think it will ever improve? such a shame as he is so young, id change him onto non allergenic james wellbeloved large breed. does he suffer from anything else? I really do hope it improves. have you told the breeder are you in contact with any litter mates to see if they are having any problems. Hope you had him insured too.
