I've entered and got my pass today.
Now what to wear, its the day of the Royal Wedding and wanted to go all dressed up for it :-)
Thinking garden party type dress? hmm...

I'm not going but two of my pups are! :) (Well two I bred, their very first show already.)
..and a hat Sue and maybe a Union Jack flag for the woofit !
I'm there on Saturday so I expect to see trail of bunting and wedding cake crumbs :)

OOh a hat, yes good idea.
As for a flag, hmm, don't own a UJ, do you think it wrong to put 'stars and stripes' on him instead?

Just read the order of judging. Bernese are on AFTER Grt Danes !! There are 125 danes to judge first. Very unusuall for us to be second in the ring. There are 68 Berns to go over. Don't think we will be in till after 12 noon then.
Aileen...unless I am being dim and reading it wrong
> do you think it wrong to put 'stars and stripes' on him instead
Definitely wrong - Swiss flag maybe - stars and stripes no! :-D I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a few wee union jacks on sticks before next Friday ! You could even have them sprouting from your hat!

Sadly I am not going, had a great time last year - weather was perfect, woos did well. However I am having my 4th op on my hand the day before and it will be pinned and in a cast for awhile ( nerve graft following the dog attack last year= not mine!) so no shows and have to be careful walking them in the next few weeks :(
Good luck to all thats going.

Ohhh sounds uncomfortable. As one who has just spend 5 weeks in a cast/splint on my right wrist/thumb you have my sympathy. Hope all goes well for your op and the outcome is good.
Is it your dominant hand?
Aileen

No,I am right handed luckily, but it has been hard showing the woos as I hold the lead in my left hand.I have no feeling on the left side of my hand, and the remainder has felt like pins and needles since the attack last July.Difficult in my job too as I am a trainee engineer and find it difficult to hold a spanner etc in that hand. Its surprising how a few seconds unpredicted behaviour in a dog can impact on your life.Mustn't grumble as it could have been worse - could have been my daughter or grand daughter. My bikini wearing days are over too !!!!

Haven't got my passes yet am there on Saturday - but also heard the Gordons are in AFTER Golden Retriever dogs???? do they have a smaller area for the show? we too never second in the ring? wonder whats happening lol!
My passes arrived today, we may show Friday ( if we can be bothered) husband stewarding lab bitches and Shih Tzu, I'm house hunting and hopefully soaking up the sun.
Good Luck all.

> Bernese are on AFTER Grt Danes !!
You are quite right :-(
Thankfully i'm going with a Leo exhibitor and they are in the ring after Newfs, so at least she won't be hanging around for me. But yes what is going on?
Gordon's are after Goldies too!!

There are 300 Goldie entries....given that the judge is given 3 mins per dog...with 300 goldies then 104 Gordons...it will take 20 hours to judge them all..
Even with us 125 danes then 67 Berns...9 1/2 hours to get through them all...
Trouble is as the show reserves the right to change rings, we all have to be there reasonable early as you never know what time your on. Putting two or three numerically smaller breeds in one after the other is a better idea and then giving exhibitors an estimate of time in ring so we do not have to drag our dogs (Especially pups) to a show and stand around for 4-5 hours with them before they are judged.
Do you all feel as if you are being taken advantage of?
Show sec's!.....A little thought for you exhibitors may help keep numbers of entries up....

I was quite pleased jap spitz are second in the ring as it means less rushing around and also mine can lounge around in their crates don't think I'd be so pleased if I had a larger breed and they had to just hang around and be bored to tears.

Thankfully i believe we are behind Dogs only Merlot not dogs and bitches !!!
Something very odd going on here?
I certainly think an estimated time of judging would help I have dogs too but of I had bitches would be thinking an even longer day !!!

I'm going :o)
> hang around and be bored to tears
This happened to us at Manchester. It was nearly 4 o'clock by the time OH was in the ring and Teasel was tired and bored by then and really didn't show at her best, she was only 14 months at the time and they had been there since 10:30am so she was really fed up by the afternoon.

Michael Quinney got through 190-odd Cavaliers at last years WELKS by around 12 noon.
The Golden entry is being judged by 2 judges so potentially 150 each...all rounders could get through that before 1pm I would think.
>all rounders could get through that before 1pm
Tooolz, just a question: as you've mentioned 'all-rounders' is that because you'd expect them to be faster than a breed specialist, or the other way around?

Some all rounders whip through them like greased lightening!
They often judge several breeds over a whole show, are used to their timings and dont usually see it as 'their 15 minutes of fame'.
In my experience anyway.
I'll be able to give a good comparison after this WELKS as we have roughly the same entry and a breed specialist ( one of the few shows we only have 1 judge).
>are used to their timings and dont usually see it as 'their 15 minutes of fame'
Ah yes - makes sense! Thanks
