If you left them together then yes a good likelihood that she's pregnant.  Hope both parents have had all the necessary health tests.
- By lilshenko [gb] Date 19.04.11 15:25 UTC

How long since her season. If possible ask the vet for tablets to abort the litter or have her spayed. If as you say both are not health tested that is the only way to be sure.

2 or 3 weeks

Then I think if you deal with it straight away you will be able to give her a tablet to end the possible pregnancy but do it now tonight if you can.

You need to ask the Vet to give your bitch the Alizin injection and have one fo them neutered.

There are hundreds of casually bred dogs of your breed and their crosses in rescue centres up and down the country for which homes cannot be found.

There is no excuse for breeding any dog of your breed that is not health tested and has something positive to offer the breed in terms of quality in such a situation when lots are Put to sleep each week.

The health checks referred to are Specialist ones involving sending off DNA samples for checking, and seeing an Opthalmic eye specialist to certify no signs of the hereditary eye disease and X-raying hips and sending these off to a panel of experts at the British Veterinary Association for scoring.

Some more details of health schemes on the kennel Club website: http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/2108

ok, then make sure you have thousands of pounds ready in case she needs a cesarian and some of the puppies need help. then even more thousands of pounds if you dogs havnt been health tested (and not just a vet check but what a previous poster put) and the people that buy the pups have to deal with so SUE you because you havnt done the relevent checks to make sure your dogs are clear of hereditary problems that CAN be avoided!!! And if you havnt done the health checks specific for the breed of dog, and one of the p[roblems you could have checked for and you havnt, are diagnosed in the puppys, you can and will be sued for the costs of treatment, as it IS avoidable.
Best thing for you to do is get the bitch to the vets for the Alizin injection. It will cost you about £50 but save you thousands in the long run.
Lea.

So what did you want to hear then ?  your first post said "any advice appreciated!"

If you aren't going to act responsibly and she is in whelp then I suggest you get a mentor to help you through this and The Book of the Bitch is most useful.
Then possibly spay??

Hope your bitch is ok, good luck.

Oh...now I know where I went wrong! I shouldn't have bothered spending hard earned money on Health Testing & vets fees. I shouln't have spent almost £700 on Stud fees & driving the length of the country to visit the Stud Dog. I should have just got 2 untested dogs, shoved them in my garden & let them get on with it!

I won't apologise for my sarcasm.....:(

I too read it as an OOPs mating and you were wanting advice as to what to do about it and everyone gave the same advice to avoid bringing more pups into the world of a breed that has problems selling or staying with the buyers.

Since all the DNA etc testing has been available then responsible breeders screen their dogs before breeding to prevent the production of pups with health problems which may not be obvious as pups but could come back at a later date to haunt them.

Are you prepared to keep all the pups if they don't sell or take back any that the new owners can't keep at any age?

I would go with the advice

Please keep your replies polite. If you don't know if your bitch is pregnant, it's probably best to make an appointment with your vet.

I'll close this thread now as you've been given sensible advice but it's up to you whether you take it or not.
