Yes if it was raw before thawing, cook it then you can re-freeze.

You can do the same with food for yourself

Didn't know that.

I'm sure you must have done without thinking about it..... Used frozen chicken to cook a stew, then put the cooked stew in the freezer, for example?

Don't do it with ready meals though, or things like fish fingers.

Yes but I'm sure they'd rather eat it raw!

Well if it's raw meat for dogs, I have heard it is ok to let it thaw then re-freeze. Their metabolism can deal with the extra bacteria produced during the thawing process (which is why we cook it if if it's for ourselves). Not a lot can compete with decaying fish on the seashore and dead rabbits well past their smell-by date, so if they can deal with that, they can easily deal with a bit of refrozen raw meat.

For the dogs: I defrost liver, and refreeze into smaller batches.  I also partially defrost wings and necks as they are welded together when delivered and once separated I re freeze them.

As you say - they can cope and it's certainly never caused my dogs any problems :)

Anything you freeze will be safe after a mth, I collect road kill for a friends burmese pythons and freeze them with dogs tripe for a mth before he collects it to use with snakes, vet advised him it was safe and of course a lot cheaper than buying lol.

I wouldn't fancy doing that job.
