Hi
Have had a busy week as my bitch went into labour on Monday evening, had first puppy Monday morning. Vet was due to see her because I thought she had finished and had to cancel as another puppy came, thought she had finished again so went to vet. Vet felt her underneath, up popped her tail and another puppy fell out literally, he was fine. I was a bit annoyed as an hour later at home she had another live puppy. There were 15 in all, one sadly didn't make it.
It has been a round the clock operation with pump up beds and alarm clocks. She is fine and feeding them all albeit in shifts. We are just starting to relax a little as they have all made through 4 days.
What a week.
Diane
Congratulations. Sorry you lost one, but still, 14 live pups is a lot of work for both you humans and mum. Get some sleep if you can ;-)
14, I though we had it bad with 8!
OMG hard work ahead but so much pleasure what a clever girl
didnt she do well
Congrats, that's a lot of hard work for you all.
Goodness me!! It's a full time job for me with just 4!!
Congrats, sorry about the little one who didn't make it. RIP XX

Wonderful, well done we are day 4 now too :))) only two babies here bit less hectic...

We had a litter of 14 in 2009, sadly one was born dead but Mum reared a healthy liter of 13. Good luck, we have never had so many high and lows with one litter but were mightly proud as we waved them off to their new homes at 8 weeks.

The first litter I bred was 15 Ridgies - a bit of a shock to us all! Unfortunately numbers 5 and 6 got tangled up so she couldn't deliver them herself. The vet advised supplementary feeding so we fed every puppy every 2 hours and they just topped up from mum. People used to come to visit and I think they expected the pups to be a bit small because there were so many, but they were gorgeous chunky babies. More than one person just cried when they saw them - they were amazing. A real baptism by fire :)
Hi thanks
well still going OK - some will be 5 days tomorrow morning. All the puppies have gained weight albeit the smaller ones not so much.
We started out not supplementing, just swapping groups of puppies but after a couple of days decided to top up against advice from some people. I have done this before. Has been the best thing we have done as I was able to relax much more knowing they were getting liquid by another means. Sometimes they are not ready for extra but all have taken from a bottle now.
I admit that during last night it was matchsticks in the eyes but every 2 hours they are getting a feed minimum.
Will be relieved when a few more days have passed by.
Diane
Glad they're all doing well, i remember the matchsticks; don't think I've quite got rid of them yet and we only have two lol.
Would you be able to start weaning at two weeks to perplace the suplememnt feeding and give you a little rest. ours were feeding quite a lot in the night the first three weeks.
How long does it take to give them all a feed yourself or do you do it in shifts?

Blimey, I know I wished Ellie had had more than just 2 and then 1 in her two litters, but 14!!!!! Good luck with that! :-)
Hi
I am not sure how I got through last night but still sleeping on pump up bed so not far to slide.
Mum had a litter before ( 12 ). We lost one in first week and then she sat on one at 2 weeks so we are not taking any chances.
We have half the puppies in a box so she only has to have 7 at a time. We were waiting one lot on,one lot off now they are a little stronger I am helping more with bottle feeding. No more than 2 hours without something anyway.
When I hold one to feed I sit in with her and she is very keen to wash the puppy as it is being fed. This seems to keep her happier all around.
We plan to start weaning onto porridge at around 2 weeks.
We are lucky as although we have a shop, when we have puppies one of us can be here all of the time.
We didn't dream that after her first litter, she would have a bigger litter again. My vet saw 6 on the scan. I've told him he needs to improve his accuracy!!!
This will be her last litter as I think we have asked too much of her, but she has been really great so far.
We are having to give a lot of thought to a run for the puppies when they are older.

Just a bit lol.
I like your routine, roll on two weeks.

I don't envy you juggling all those pups, hope they continue to progress well.
A breeder I know was told to expect 8 or 9 pups after an Xray in a breed which has 2 - 6 pups normally, after 5 were delivered and nothing more happened she took her to the vet to discover that the Xray had been double exposed so what they were seeing was the same pups twice.

Congratulations on your litter. 15 wow that's quite a delivery!!!
I would be petrified about making sure so many went to the right homes (my breed rarely have more than 4 or 5 and that's hard enough!). Good Luck with them!
It is really difficult and I do have to turn people away. I was lucky as had a group of people I have been speaking to / met for a long time and some have had my breed before. Obviously the number was unexpected so now hoping for a few good enquiries.
I am very involved on the committee ( was secretary ) of our breed club so this of course helps.

Hi
This is the first time we have ever had a bitch have more 2nd litter than the first. She had 12 first time but we lost 2 over a couple of weeks.
These are all doing well and although I admit there were nights when I didn't know how we would get through it, they can go a bit longer now and yes we are starting to relax a little. They seem very strong puppies but about half and half there is a noticeable difference between the sizes of puppies so we are concentrating on the smaller ones so they don't get behind.
We are still doing shifts but the number of boxes are growing as they are filling them out more!!!!
Hope all goes well with your girl-I worried through the whole term and had her at the vets 4 times to reassure me, they were great.
We are still not sure how we will cope with 14 puppies playing together but hope we will enjoy it anyway.
God luck again
Diane
