i had my girl scanned and vet said no pups , i thought i saw a heartbeat and my friend thought she saw a black blob, anyway vet said no way is she pregnant, but i know with phantoms they have nipple growth and bits staying larger but is it normal for them to go off their food, my girls not eaten her morning meal for about 2 weeks were she's normally ready for her food , thanks in advance for any help ,

It can be normal if she's coming out of season.  mine are bad for doing that.

Vets can be very unreliable, its a sjame the vet couldn't email you a pic of the scan for others to look at.  Might be worth finding a sheep scanner to varify pups or not, they're much more reliable.

otherwise treat your girl as pregnant until you know differently. xx

she came out of season 4 weeks ago, she was mated the second time and within 2 days her season just seem to stop,

Some do and some don't.

When is the due date and far along was she when you had her scanned.

Try a little honey either on your finger in something to increase her appitite.

My vet will not say yes or no for sure until he does a 35 day scan. He can be pretty much sure but he won't commit until 35 days and yes I have a bitch who goes off food when shes having a phantom. She doesn't have huge ones, just a bit of whingeing and scratting at the wall paper but she can go off her food for weeks. Drives me mad and the more you pander to her by giving her 'nice' stuff as opposed to normal dog food, the worse she gets.

Then one day she justs decides to eat again, shes very wierd.

I have a girlie having a phantom too :( Scanned on day 38, no pups. We've had all the signs, swollen vulva, clear discharge, slight sickness & she started trying to dig the floor up on day 49! She was measured a month ago, 24 waist, 26 ribs. On Friday I measured again & she's 28 waist, 30 ribs. We're now on day 56 & I'm having to add 'nice' things to her normal food just to get her to eat something. Of course we are on watch incase the scan was wrong & there's a pup or 2 hiding somewhere, but we're 99% sure it's a phantom. I find pilchards or scrambled eggs will get my girl eating. Good luck...it's a worrying time when they won't eat :(

Will the vets rescan for free?

I have a girl who has had 3 phantoms[only on seasons she has been mated/3 different studs] she eats like a horse, her weight and girth increase in size[more so than the girl who was a few days ahead of her and who did have pups] then between 6-7 weeks literally everything returns to normal, the first couple of times I hoped maybe there were pups hiding in there but it wasn't to be.

I am going to mate her to one of my lads one final time later this year and get her scanned this time to see if she is actually pregnant and absorbing the pups for some reason.

Breeding isn't easy for everyone and it seems those who put more care and thought into what they are doing and why have more problems than those who bung any pair of dogs together.

well i have managed to get her to eat a very small amount in the mornings, she just seems really fed up, don't want to play with the others and she is keeping her distance from them, i'm hoping things will get back to normal soon , if i take her back to be scanned i have to pay £60 the same as the 1st scan ,

What area are you in, a private/sheep scanner would be far cheeper.  I paid £20, so a big difference.

keep trying her with food.  If she's having a phantom its worth trying to get her out for a walk to take her mind off it.
