Hi i'm just in the process of building alarge kennel for 2 show retrievers it has a large covered run which at the moment the floor is a concrete pad which has a drain. What do you put on top of the concrete if any thing??Thinking about the dogs slipping, ease of hose piping it down and prevention of algae? There is a slight slope on the ron towards the drain.
ny suggestions would be much appreciated the size of run is 5m x 4m
Thanks in advance
A covered concrete run with a drain - sounds bliss :)
Bleach (and bitches urine) is quite good at getting rid of algae but make sure the drain is one you can get at and clean out if it gets blocked and if not put mesh over the top to stop most of the rubbish going down.
If you can get hold of a timber palette and fix some ply to the top this makes a nice platform for the dogs to lay on when outside

Hi
We have an area at the side of the house which is concrete based ,I wouldn't worry about the algae -it won't have time to build up !
Our patio is full of the stuff but this bit is spotless with all the hoseing, disenfecting and brushing

Hi, thanks for the replies.I'm very lucky to have these kennels as my partner is a cabinet maker and the roof is suppoted with 4 shaped oak posts and the roof has pantiles on it.The drain is easy to clean.
I have Goldens and they strip my partners hardwoods and reduce them to match sticks in seconds ,as well as run off
with wood hes making into furniture its an occupational hazzard!
The dogs sleeping area has underfloor heating raised beds and also has a drain so ican wash and dry the floors off quickly.
So thanks for your replies and ill just leave the concrete with nothing on it.Actually my partner says when hes in trouble he will be sleeping out there complete with t.v ,fridge and dogs :-)

Hi
Maybe I can help a bit as I own commercial kennels.
First we tried to repaint the floor with a plastic resin compound but found out that if the concrete floor has already had a concrete sealant on it plastic floor (skins) won't take. We found out to our cost when it all started to come up. All the manufactures only show its good for wheeled type vehicles such as fork lift truck. Dogs soon dig it up.
The best thing we have found is quarry tiles the 6"red squared type, they can be steam cleaned/scrubbed and keep the kennels looking nice.
Hope this is of some help.
