Topic Dog Boards / General / Dog leads - help

Would realy like to find leads with a snap hook fastener (I think that's what they are called) as ours are getting very old and tatty; rather than the usual trigger/pistol fastner.
The link gives a picture of some,  http://ak2.ostkcdn.com/images/products/L11419321.jpg
Does anyone know or have any idea where to find them in the UK? Many thanks.

I was trying to do the same a while back , with no luck, after getting fed up with the bit on the trigger catching in the collar chain rings.

Have been wanting to get the dogs new leads for sometime but realy don't like the trigger catch,  like you it gets caught in the collar rings or even worse fails. Don't understand why they have suddenly disappeared and become standardised to the trigger catch. Costal used to do them.

Let me know if you have any luck finding any.

what about one with a carabiner clip instead of a snap one?

these are reduced because they are in last years colours, lol.

Barbara,  I've just found them!

http://www.viovet.co.uk/p4953/Classic_Soft_Protection_Black_Lead_-_5/8_percent22X_40_percent22/product_info.html

I shall ring them tomorrow, hope they are also what you've been after?

Now if only they were in rope like my Outhwaites gundog leads.

Wonder if they have enough colours, need 6 different ones.

Hi,

Playing catch up slightly but in a wholesalers yesterday and noticed that Armitages do leads with the clip you want.

Jeff.

Found on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Armitage-Care-Nylon-40inch-Large/dp/B003827RYE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1302771694&sr=8-4

Brainless. Thanks for link, but if you enlarge the image 'I think' they are still the pistol type, just a different design. Had a look at some of their other leads with similar catch, taken from another angle and can see the groove where you pull the catch down - if that makes sence!

Look for the clips you like - and then have someone make the leads for you?

Abbey Saddlery do a range of spring/snap/trigger hooks  for example this one http://www.abbeysaddlery.co.uk/images/products/j/imgj077.jpg

Yes it's still the trigger/pistol type, but doesn't have the bit that catches in colloars as the trigger is rounded off.

Think 'HR' may be the ones, look like they only do them in 1"

Many thanks for your replies. Found some at viovet after a long search, not as substantial as our previous ones from costal but much happier with them than the trigger catch. Think next time will just have to buy the catch and then make the leads myself.

The other thing you could try is horse leadropes, some still have the trigger clip but others do have the type you are looking for, washable, substantial and strong enough for a horse, plus in lots of different colours.

that's just what I was thinking, I am going to have a go at weaving a lead :)

> The other thing you could try is horse leadropes,

Good idea.
Just had a look on ebay and yes they are available. So will go to the local equestrain shop, have a look and enjoy the smell of leather while I'm there.  Many thanks.

These look like what you need, http://www.tfmsuperstore.co.uk/product.lasso?product=Lead-Rope,-Cotton-(Horse)-Ass'td-Colours+16836 , lot of colours and if they don't have handles you can always get the ends spliced into one.

These peopel give a choice of trigger or the Walsall clip for theri leads. http://www.totally-canine.co.uk/caninelead.htm
