lactating bitch with 1 wk old puppies ..bitch this morning has very loose bowels, owner thinks its because she gave her eggs , chicken , asked me if she should continue feeding her ...
I asked her if she is well in herself and to take her temp ... but to ring the vet as if it is a bug she could well pass it onto the puppies .
Never had a bitch with upset tum when feeding puppies ... have I given the right advice ?...  cant stop thinking about it.. as I bred this bitch , they live  hundreds of miles away, and she mean a lot to me.

My bitch has had loose bowels from whelping, she is now on day 23 lactation. I think it is because she is eating x 9 puppy poohs every few hours and I am having to give her so much food to keep the milk supply that it isn't easy to digest it all.I found that by giving probiotics with every meal, the stools are better but  still soft. Also if you give her mainly puppy food with a bit of extra calcium / protein with each meal i.e. chicken, meat, cottage cheese, eggs etc etc that may help. Lactol is good too. Good Luck.

I told the owner that it may be because she is cleaning the puppies so well and the extra food she is eating but was just concerned as never had a bitch who has had runs just want to give her the best advice... thanks for your reply.

Good luck with your babies 9 my oh my ... :)

One of my girls had the runs, and I did put her on Protexin, with no ill effects to the pups that she was feeding.
