The law states that poo bins have to be ion an area that can be serviced by a vehicle - think about it, employ a man to collect pooh bags along a canal??? where is he going to leave his truck!

Canals usually go near roads so this really isn't a problem - put the bin on the towpath, they drive up to the bridge or whatever and access from there - easy!

Emptied at a cost of course its not free I paid about £1152 per annum per bin out of your rates - parish councils pay this one. Its not easy they have to prioritise and it usually goes to any area where kids are first. You could approach your parish council or sponsor one?

i have a tin in my car with one of those tree air fresheners in it to put poo bags in untill i can find a big, might be useful to put a freshener in a rucksack or use those zip sandwich bag thing in a rucksack ?

Just don't go merrily swinging it about as you go on your frolick with your dogs. I ended up without even thinking about it covered in dog pooh where one of the bags has split
One was not amused that day!!!

I have now HAD to start picking ALL poo i find, not just my own dogs.

Where I live there are a lot of free range dogs, and a lot of elderly people with dogs on extender leads who are oblivious.

I don't really WANT to pick up other peoples poo especially as very often MY dogs have emptied in the garden first - however. I am the 'dog lady', I have five dogs and I'm one of very very few people regularly seen walking my dogs. So who gets the blame for poo, me, certainly not the sneaky hobbits that boot their dogs out at 8am when theres no one around to see.

Ive been doing this a month or so now, and NOW... I am 'the dog lady who always picks up' because whenever anyone sees me or OH walking our dogs, we always have at least one bag of poo with us.

It is extremely irritating that it has come to this, but on the other hand if I don't (and other people who are responsible are now taking the same line as me), shortly we will NOT be allowed to walk our dogs in the places we do.  And it wont be the sneaky hobbitses who don't care who suffer, t hey will still let their dogs out unsupervised. It will be us responsible walkers.

Canal towpaths are around here, regularly VILE - yep you can't get a vehicle down a towpath.. but you can get a BOAT down a canal. What about regular 'muck trips' down canals tidying up the path?

You have been doing a stirling job but it really is NOT down to you to do this..the persons who are not picking up are legally obliged to clear up after their dog. I might be inclined to get some signs put up to try & make them aware of this.

Just a thought but ... can that be justified in these days of council cuts and reduced spending? Or are we calling for parties of volunteers, which would, with the co-operation of the local media, be an excellent publicity stunt for the Cause?

You have summed up the situation perfectly. That is exactly what happens here and this is one reason why we carry the bags home and do not use the dog mess bins provided. I want people to see that we not only pick up after our dogs but we also take it home and dispose of it! Thankfully, we do not suffer from latch-key dogs here - just irresponsible owners who give the rest of us a bad name. Still ranting :)

were ever we go my hubby & i have always got poo bags, in our cars, fleeces, coats, best jackets lol reason being if we have been out for dinner with friends, when we get back we take the dogs for a walk, sometimes that maybe 11pm or later,
our neighbours must think we are nuts, because we take a torch with us at night so we can see the dogs poo & clear it up, my lab wont stand still he likes to spread it everywhere so it must look quite funny to people watching my hubby following his trail with the torch but we always always clean up after our dogs,
It makes me so angry when people dont clear the dog poo, how long does it take & they just give all dog owners a bad name ggrrrrrrrrr

I met a lady outside the school whilst taking my dogs out...she had a Westie...it did a poo on the grass right outside the school gates whilst the kids were going in..I offered her a bag and she her reply was "Oh no, I dont pick it up outside, Im not wearing rubber gloves"!!!!!
I told her to stand still and not move, picked it up in double poo bags and handed it to her and told her to bring poo bags and rubber gloves and not to be so disgusting. Her face was an absolute picture.... apparently it isnt the first time shes done this, but Im the only one who has had the guts to tackle her about it...I also reported her to the school and the council...I pick up after my dogs so why shouldnt she. A letter from the school has been sent out to all parents about the dog fouling. Thankfully I dont have any children at school any more.

I know - but who will suffer the most if responsible owners don't do this? It wont be the ones who don't care, who let their dogs out unsupervised and walk them (if they do) where they feel like it, usually up the roads off lead.

It will be the likes of me and you, who abide by the laws even if we don't like them and will end up with no where to walk our dogs or, heaven forbid, an awful system like the US dog parks which I can see HERE, being tiny little affairs thoroughly unsuited to dogs (as many in the US are also!)
