Topic Dog Boards / General / Glass Door Dog/Cat Flaps

Hi

I have been looking into getting a Dog flap fitted into a glass door.  I have seen a couple of companies on the internet that do this by way of taking out the full pane of glass already fitted and putting a new one in with the flap already in place, I believe they do this because of the vacum needed in double glazing.
Has anybody had this done or have any feedback on it and a rough idea of price.

Thanks
Donna

I haven't had that done but I have once taken out the bottom glass on a double glazed door and replaced it with a piece of wood with the cat flap fitted. It was a rented house so when we left we just put the glass back in.

I am getting this done with my door.  I have a UPVC door which has glass straight down the centre and a fancy ornamental piece at the bottom.  What they do is they replace the panel and give you a completely new one.  I am getting sort of the same with a bigger plain panel at the bottom with space for a big catflap so my fat cat can fit through!!  Haven't thought about how to keep my dogs IN though??  I couldn't tell you a price cos it depends what you want.  Same as the doors, the fancier you go, the more expensive.

i had the same as cracar, long pane of glass removed and replaced with glass at top and plastic at bottom with dog flap in, never had a problem with it and it cost about £150 i think but that was 7 years ago

3 toy breeds and a cat here..have had the cat flap in for years and the older dogs have helped the younger one figure it out by going out and then peeking in the little window encouraging her to go through and out into the garden and doing the same when they come come back in.....took her about 2 hours to manage to do it by herself, with a lot of encouragement from us on either side, we had to build a little step for her but she flies through now no problem. Only draw back is the draft in winter!!

My daughter had this done to her double glazed patio doors and it seems to work well, she's had it for a couple of years now.  i think the cost was approx £250-£300

I had a bottom piece of double glass replaced last year in order to have a cat flap. It cost about £175.....
