i have just noticed that one of my bitches is in season, i have no idea how long she has been in season as she has been outside all the time, it may be a matter of a day or 2 it could be longer. i cant have a litter right now as i have a very sick dog with luxating patellas and a ripped tendon who may end up loosing her leg, so we will be taking her to the vets to be on the safe side. does anyone know how much the jab costs? and if their are any side effects?

thanks

Yes, I had an accident recently, and didn't want this bitch to be bred from - wait for it - she had recently had surgery for luxating patella!

I had been keeping her confined, as she had sailed through the operation so well, that I had to do something to stop her wanting to race round like a demon.  She was in the living room, and I was such an idiot to miss one of the boys dive past me.  They were locked in seconds.

The mismate jabs cost me £17 each.  She had to have 2.  I had been prepared for side effects, and saw none.  She has been fine, and is going for her 4 week scan soon, to make sure that it worked.  I guess the scan will be expensive, it's usually around £60 at my surgery.

I intend having her spayed at the end of May, and she had her first jab 2 days after the mismate.  The vet that did the 2nd jab told me that, given that early after mating, she had never seen one that wasn't successful.

Hope your girl does as well with her surgery as this little one, I am soooo  pleased with the surgery.

her first op went well but the op on her second leg didnt work so she had to have it pinned, she had stage 3 patellas but then 3 weeks after the second op we was getting all 5 of our dogs out of the back of our pick-up and she decided to jump :( any one of them could have jumped but it had to be her resulting in her ripping her tendon in 2 on the same leg, she has had that stiched back together but now it is a waiting game to see if it will heal, if it doesnt work with the stiches then she will need to have an external fixator fitted and if that fails then we really are out of options, shes been through so much and is still only 10 months old and she is also going through her first season, it is her mum who is the other one in season that im not sure how long she has been in season for.
will the mismate has any bad effects on her if she has only been in season a day or 2? i would rather get it for her and then i know for sure that we arnt going to have puppies

I can only say that I would go for the jab, even without being sure of the days.  I will send positive vibes her way.
