had OH out today spraying one of the crates as it is in good nic just needs freshening up a  bit .... have to say am delighted with the results it look brand new!!

Glad it turned out well.  I had one of mine sprayed a few years back - had my new small grooming tabel pinced at a show whiel watching the group, so decided to have its replacement's aluminium legs sprayed bright pink so it was noticeable and got the cage done too in case anyone wanted to help themselves to that - thought the colour woudl make them stand out form the crowd!  A couple of years later and pink crate are available to buy all over the place! 

I was a bit worried it would not be long lasting but several years down the line a couple of the fastening clips on the sides need replacing but the paint job looks good as new.

have heard other people having stuff pinched at shows.. I mark my expensive brushes with my kennel name it annoys me that I have to damage my own property in order to protect it from thieves.

dog crate is shining linke a new pin!!!! think I will get him to do the others.

What did he use, and did he prepare the crate in any way beforehand? Was there any rust on it?

I'd love to know this too - we have a crate that's starting to look a bit tired.   Spraying would be easier than looking for a replacement.   some seem really flimsy compared to ours ;)

used hammerite gold (crate already that colour) smooth , brushed it down, no other prep , although it wasnt rusty more dull ,removed the plastic bottom, stood it on a chair covered with an old sheet and sprayed it twice then left it to dry in the sun.
