Yes me again - worried AGAIN.
I don't know if its cos I am an emotional wreck right now (justy lost my job and this is my first ever litter) but I have something else to add to my worry.
On day 13 a few pups had diahrea (sp) which we treated with Pro Kolin - didnt work,on day 15 took worse pup to the vets,vet said she was very healthy but as stool was so runny put her and other runny bums on Synulus-but to worm too as this could be the cause.So we wormed for 3 days and used the drops.Had some more runny bums - could be due to worming.
Now,day 21,still what I would consider 'loose' and we started weaning yesterday as they were not content on Mum.We have the odd sneeze and a bit of thick milk brought up by one or two - is this usual when you start to wean ?
Urgh,another day another worry.Would love to sit and enjoy them rather than panic all the time ! ! !

That is one food that does not agree with my dogs or puppies.

I have had it in quite large quantities won at shows as they are kind enough to sponsor our club shows, and have had to sneak it into their food, and find that any more than about 20% makes them loose.

The other food that had the same negative effect has been Pedigree proffesional.

I can highly recomend both Arden Grange Prestige and Arden Grange Puppy.

Mine came weaned onto RC, but personally i'm not a fan of it and their poo's weren't the greatest.. I second the AG. A friend of mine breeds and uses the same as Brainless, she did for her last litter and is doing so for her current litter and all have done well on it.
I also use AG Prestige for my adult and highly recommend the AG Large breed puppy too.

i have to say that they are FINALLY starting to firm up after 2nd weaning meal,which makes me wonder if it was mums milk making them loose ?

Hi i have just starting weaning at 20 days myself. Puppy food soaked in water, our Mum is loosing interest in feeding them how are your pups doing and how long until you can go all food no milk?

Please update on your pups usefull to read others experiences.

I used puupy poridge and babydog milk, had no problems and pups loved it.  on the second day I put a little ped' chum in mushed up, it went down a storn.  i noticed that it increased their appitites so I'm going to introduce a second feed today, then if ok a third feed tomorrow.  mine are 31/2 wks now and was ready when they hit 3wk for extra.

Mine will be four weeks on Tuesday and I started weaning three days ago with RC mother and baby.
They seem fine but don't seem to poo an awful lot,mum still has plenty milk and will feed for only
a few minutes and then wants out.
I have them in my bedroom with a whelping box and a pen with a bed for her to go to but she has started
barking wanting out the pen during the night and does not seem interested in feeding them during the night so I have to encourage her
when they wake to give them a feed to settle them.
I was just a bit worried they were not getting enough fluid.
My past litters mum seemed happy to feed until about six or seven weeks.
How many feeds should I be giving?
How often should mum be feeding pups?

Hi Kane..congrats on all the babies Lucy Loo has done so well!
Our litter is a few days younger than yours and Bella is feeding approx 5-6am then around 10am we offer Tablespoon RC Mother & baby Tin they seem to love it...its a meat paste. I heard about it at Crufts then Alison the rep ordered me it...Bella then feeds.
1-2pm ish Tablespoon RC Mum & Baby Tin then Bella feeds
6pm same again
10pm-11pm ish Bella feeds... they dont tend to wake now to around 5am
We do however have to praise her and sit with her every time she feeds as she wont stay with them on her own! also we too had to toliet them she simply refused tho last litter she cleaned them apart from the number two's ofcourse (typical in our breed)!
We also offer small amount of water in shallow dish at every feed but never leave it unsupervised.

Hi Pamb, Congratulations on Bella boo's litter,she's a wee treasure.
I am doing roughly the same routine and it is getting easier but you just worry constantly.
I have the RC mousse and they do love it...expensive but they know what they like.
She has done so well for first time mum,it is a lot for her to cope with.
She refuses to do the toileting part but hey she watches me cleaning them all for her.
I have to stay with her for every feed and coax her with tasty treats but it's lovely watching them thrive.
They are just adorable and it's difficult not to want to keep them all but I got my own way this time
and I have been allowed to keep one to add to the gang.(I must be mad)

Mine are now on 5 solid meals a day ( solid - soaked for 1 hour) and have Mum milk about 3 - 4 times a day,they have come on so quickly now

I realise how lucky I am with my breed.

Mine will clean up all waste usually until the pups start going outside at 4 1/2 weeks and even then I have to beat them to it.  Nearly all indoor toilets Mum takes care of right up to then.  At the very least Mums clean and dispose of all waste until pups are on their feet and defecating unaided at about 3 weeks.

Such poor maternal instincts in a breed surely are a worry and the best mothers should be encouraged, as I am sure it is a largely inherited trait.
