Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Which class can I enter?
- By Tigerprawn [gb] Date 09.04.11 22:18 UTC
Hi, I am really confused and hope that you can help :)
I have a 10month old schnauzer that has never been shown in the UK but has won  best puppy on champ shows  twice abroad (I guess that doesn't count in the UK anyway).
So as far as I understand it, I can enter the Puppy & Junior class but at some shows there are no Puppy or Junior classes. What about Graduate, Post Graduate and Open classes? Can a dog that has never been shown in the UK before enter those classes?
Thank you

Hi Tigerprawn, with a puppy, I would personally choose the lowest available class. So in the instance you decribe, I would enter the Graduate class. Even if you don't win the class, you might still be elligable for Best Puppy in Breed, if you were the highest placed puppy.

thank you! I agree with you. but do I understand correctly that theoreticaly I can enter all of these classes with my 10mo puppy? thank you :)

Yes, indeed you can enter any or all of those classes if you wish. Most exhibitors wouldn't enter the Open class with a puppy though, unless it was the only class on for their breed, and for the reasons I previously stated.

As long as you have not won any awards that count toward the title of champion (Junior champion isn't a champion in UK eyes) then you can enter any of the classes, but if you have won a CAC, CC, CACIB etc then you can only go in the classes that do not exclude CC winners.

I wouldn't enter more than 2 classes if I was you - for one thing it's a long day for a 10 month puppy, and for another it instantly marks you as a novice if you are entered in every single class from Puppy through to Open.

These days with the second entry being as much as £5 at Champ shows, few of us can afford to enter more than one extra class.

In a breed like mine that is numerically small to even have a chance of Junior warrant points you will need to enter some of the adult classes to have a chance of enough numbers.

I don't think My Inka won a single point from Puppy or Junior, and having won RCC's and CC's we put her in Post Grad then Limit too.

She won her title before she got the JW.
