Topic Dog Boards / General / Which vacuum cleaner?
- By Fleabag Date 08.04.11 20:25 UTC
Well today I finally managed to kill off my long-hated upright vacuum and now I'm getting sooooo excited because I'm off to buy a new vacuum cleaner tomorrow (tongue firmly in cheek!)

I know I can rely on impartial, commission-free recommendations here....

My only criteria is - cylinder and as powerful as possible for pulling up dog hair without costing an arm, leg and any other part of the anatomy!  lol

So what does it for you??!!!

We have a Dyson Animal which works great - well it did until I switched to wooden floors! Now the only place it is used is the stairs and my bedroom; it is a little difficult to use on the stairs but it does remove dog hair really well. Our old GSD X moulted constantly - you could put your hand on her coat and make a fist and come away with a fist full of moulted hair even after you brushed her and it cleaned up after her no problems.

We have an old fashioned vax three in one - the ugly orange one like this and it does a great job :-)

Miele Cat & Dog.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrilliant!  :-)  :-)

Vax. They're heavier and noiser than Dyson but wouldn't change for anything else.

I had a Meili Cat & Dog for 11 years, never broke down once, the only thing against them is the cost of the bags which has gone up at an alarming rate while the amount of bags in the box has gone down, you get 4 or 5 bags for £11, which means you end up paying the price of the vacuum every year. I recently changed to a Dyson Animal which sooked up a lot more muck than the Meili did.

Henry Hoover for me, had them for years, really sturdy and I am REALLY harsh on my  vacums! Not the easiest to manouvere but its makes up for that in all other and they are virtually indestructable.

I agree with the Henry recommendation, I spent years messing about with expensive bag-less pet specific hoovers, none of which were any good, grrr.
Got a Henry in Jan and I love it so! Hoovering is soooo easy now takes a 1/4 of the time it used to, plus the bags only cost 47p a go and holds way more dust and hair than any cylinder ever will so saves you the job of constant emptying.

Vax 3 in 1.  My last one was wrecked by a dog that I was looknig after and haven't been able to afford another one, so hate not having it now!!

I have a dyson pet and I love it it's still going strong even after sucking up huge amounts of pet hair, had a Henry hated it gave it away and I thought my moms miele pet was ok if not a bit of a back hurter if you've got a weak back :-p

Dyson animal 4me, I have tried a few others and this is the only one that is suitable for my 5.

i have a dyson animal. its ok but the only part that makes it 'animal' is an attatchment for dog hair that wont stay on unless you hold it! i just use the normal turbo head that came with it and its ok but i wouldnt say it was user friendly as its very heavy and hates corners
if you get a dyson go for the normal one, dont waste money on the animal for that fitment

I've got a George, (like a Henry but it also washes the floor) I sold my Dyson cylinder which still had 3 years guarantee left to buy my George and I have no regrets, for me it works better than the Dyson.

Thats what got me fed up with 'pet' hoovers in the end Tina, they were just regular hoovers with an attachment (made out of the most brittle plastic known to man). I'm firmly in the Henry Camp these days, jealous of the person who has a George, lol so sad, I must be pretty boring to get envious about hoovers :)

If I didn't hate cylinders then I would have a Henry, but I only like uprights so have a Dyson DC14 all floors.

yep I am with brainless here. Cant get on with cylinders (except stairs) the do my back and seem really hard work

I too think cylinder cleaners are hard work, I have Dyson, in fact I have two and love them.
