Hi I have been taking my pug to ringcraft and I am looking to start putting him into shows soon. Just wondered if anyone could reccomend a nice one to go to for our first time? Don't want to throw us in at the deep end for our first few! We live in the north west but would be Willing to travel a distance.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated :-)

I would start with an open show.  I don't know the best place to look for schedules - but you can try on http://fossedata.co.uk but think arenaprint? is another?

Open shows are much more relaxed and less hectic (well mostly :) :))

Does you ringcraft not have schedules there for you to pick up for local shows?

Keep an eye out for Companion Shows in your area too, they are a great starting out point for a novice Dog And Handler.  Don't know if it is too far for you to come, but it is Scottish Pug Show at Haddington on Saturday - would be a great place for you to visit and watch dozens of pugs in the ring.  Usually Ringcraft classes are good places for picking up schedules, as are other open shows, so why not viisit a few open shows, get a feel of the atmosphere and procedures without the stress of being about to go in the ring and pick up some schedules.

That's all really helpful thank you :) I'll definately have a look at some companion shows and I think you're right about visiting a few first to get a feel for what happens. They did give us details this week at ringcraft for a show so I think I might just visit that one before I start trying to do it myself!

Lists open shows in north west and elsewhere. I am also in north west, with a similar breed but utility.

Yes it does. The only shows where dogs don't need to be KC registered are Companion Shows.
