i dont want to start an argument and i admit i dont own rough collies but i remember them from my childhood and from crufts in the past
this year i saw the collies at crufts and it seems to me that their eyes are smaller than before. i know the standard says almond shape but the ones at crufts looked like they only had slits instead of eyes
am i imagining this?

I'm no expert but I've thought the same as you for the last few yrs.I used to look after a rough collie and his eyes were beautiful lol. He had only to look at me and he got a sweetie!
Kind Regards

I was brought up with a wonderful Rough and I understand totally where you are coming from. The heads have changed, longer and narrower and a definite change to eye shape

im only worried that they may be unable to see if this continues
is this another case of 'bad' breeding affecting dog health?
I believe it depends on lines....like in shelties certain lines have smaller eyes than others. I do understand were you are coming from though and have seen many with smaller eyes than way back when. However the big eye'd ones are still out there.

...........and I have got one!! :) :)

They're definitely not the breed my parents had when I was a young child, but have to say that their height range and backends have started to improve again recently because not so long ago I cdn't tell the difference between some Shelties and RC's!

You would not believe how many times I get stopped and asked about my "rough collies" or "mini rough collies". Many people dont see them as two different breeds.
