hi guys
Need your input again i'm thinking of entering the windsor dog show 30th june the thing is i've never entered one with it being benched.  And if this sounds naive I apologise now but do I have to supply the crate or the bench chain and if so what size crate or where can I get the bench chain (any links would be appreciated) i'm so nervous and I haven't even entered lol (do I or don't I )

And how many classes should I go for in the breed classes, am thinking of entering the AV class and the special beginners stakes

Please advice as a complete novice and out of my depth here will try to talk to other Stafford owners if nerves let me lol

Thanks again and thanks for reading

Take your own cage.  What breed?  A 36" cage fits on most benches.

How many classes depends on how old your dog is?  Personally I only enter one class, but those chasing JW points might enter 3 or 4!
Keep an eye on the stakes classes times, they do sometimes clash with the breed judging.

thanks toller she is a SBT she will be 15mths was thinking of doing junior and yearling.
The cage will be a problem as going to windsor by train so am thinking of using a bench chain do we bring our own if so where do I get them

Thanks not worried about JW she only has a point so not chasing for that lol

You'll need to take your own benching chain, but it needn't be anything fancy, just something she won't chew through. I used to tie my dog's lead to the ring at the back of the bench, and that worked fine. :-)

Otherwise you could get one from here but that might not be the best value. A little Googling will find you the best deal.

Your choice on the crate - I personally don't.

I stick to breed classes and usually enter one - two tops - I don't tend to do any AV or stakes classes - re: special beginners if a puppy wouldn't do as might have some much more mature dogs in it.

Some people like to do more but as its your first general champ show why don't you just do your breed and enjoy it and look around what its all about.

yes I would probably do junior and yearling at that age :)

I don't like to use benches either and won't ever leave my dog unattended on one. At Crufts, the last time I had a dog entered I used a normal lead clipped into the ring as JG has mentioned and that was fine. I won't use a crate either. I like my dogs to be with me or in the company of someone I trust..

She will not be left unattended as will have someone with me or if we both want to have look round she will come with us.

Just to say that at a show like Windsor stakes classes are likely to have anything from 30-50 entries in so can be somewhat daunting. I'd stick to breed classes if I was you, for the first time. :) It can also be awkward as sometimes stakes classes and breed classes clash so it's a lot to keep track of.

thanks goldmali
I think I will stick to the two breed classes and not get a head of myself lol and take it all in and maybe talk to other Stafford owners

Thanks

You will be able to buy a bench chain on the day, if you want one.  I doubt you will need one as you will probably be sitting by the ring watching the judging.
