Hi everyone my little girl has missed again :( My question now is she is a giant breed and was 4 on xmas day Would you try again this would be 4th time or will she be to old she will be 4 and 8 months when she comes in again
thanks from Gutted lol
Risks of pyo increase with and shes not going to be as flexible, what breed and was the stud proven? how did the matings go and have you had any tests. Are her seasons 'normal'
seasons normal had projestrone tests had her checked out nothing wrong and he has a really really really good sperm count She is a giant breed x
Has she always been mated to the same male?

My bitch isn't a giant breed but is a large breed & will be 4 and 3 months when we breed her (for the first time). If that's any help.
Did you do the blood testing progesterone tests or just the in-house colour-changing ones which the vet does?

I think you are risking her going down with a pyo after all those unsuccessful matings.
>Has she always been mated to the same male?
I was thinking this too. Sometimes dogs just aren't compatible and you may need to try a different male, but you are running out of time. Personally, I stopped trying to mate my bitch after 3 failed attempts and wouldn't keep trying. I had her spayed in the end, but for hormonal reasons, not for the fact that she didn't get pregnant. She did but reabsorbed every time.

On another forum, we were discussing bitches missing and the possiblity of being due to Canine Herpes, would that be something to investigate in your case?
I did give her the herpes vaccine on 1 of the matings but did not last time Yes I have always used the same dog he has had his sperm tested and it's fantastic So it's not age then it's the amount of times u breed ????? Without success that's important I have had her physically checked by the vets and he said everything was fine My vet says it would be fine up till 5 maybe 5 and a half But then again every time I breed her they get a good few hundred pounds X
Also is 4 matings such a lot I did not think it was I would not put her through any more or me Age confused me but not how many times she was mated x
I would try her one more time - but with a different dog. It doesn't matter that he has been tested, sometimes it just doesn't happen with a particular dog but when you try with another - success!
Good luck.

Totally agree with this statement. With my foundation bitch I used a relatively well know stud but my girl missed to him twice - I then tried with another dog from a different line and had success.
I recently had a miss with another bitch for no known reason - bitch previously had a litter and stud's sperm count was very high - for whatever reason it just didn't happen. Won't risk using the dog again - sometimes although on paper everything appears ok it just doesn't work out that way.
I would give her a third and final time, different stud, do blood tests, give CHV etc and pray....

I have a female who has missed 3 times to 3 different studs, all proven, I then found out she ovulates very early and plan on one last try with her next season after discussing it with the vet.

My personal feeling is that she is getting too old. A first litter should be before 5 years especially with a large breed. If she is a little late coming into season...then she may be 4 yrs and 9 months then 9 weeks till pups due that will make her just short of her 5th birthday, Too old for my liking.. Nature also has it's own way of controling things and maybe she is just not right for breeding, if you have got your days right for ovulation then maybe she is telling you it is not for her. Who knows if she has caught before but re-absorbed due to problems with the pups that we cannot see. Some re-absorb early on as Mother Nature knows best.

i feel your disappointment, i have just had my gorgeous girl miss for the second time, 2 different dogs, we are trying once more with the ch male that i have loved for ages. We got a good mating very quickly and easily. I too feel that she is an early ovulator as she was flagging from very early but i thought she was just being a tart lol. Looks like she was right!
If she is fit and well then i think in your position i would try once more...definately with a different stud and maybe ask if you could possibly do 3 matings if the dogs want too to cover a wider span.
Good luck and i hope you have success if you do try one last time.

Another note to consider - a dog can have his sperm tested and they can be fine - lots there - however mobility of the sperm is now a factor - he may have sperm - but its going no where! is he proven?
At special reproduction clinics they dont only look for the amount of sperm but also the mobility and the percentage of abnormalities. I would definitely try a different and a proven stud dog, especially as even if you do decide to go ahead again this would be her very last chance!
Did you have her on antibiotics at all. I know a bitch that kept failing to different males and on her final attempt the vet put her on antibiotcs. Not Noroclav/synulox, you want the top flight ones. Baytril and Antirobe from the first day of her season and then stop as soon as she is mated so any developing pups don't get dosed as well.
It worked a treat. Wouldn't bother with the CHV but certainly try the AB's and maybe a different male and if this doesn't work, I'd give up.
Wouldn't bother with the CHVWhy not?

> A first litter should be before 5 years especially with a large breed.
I feel that it should be
any breed to be honest. I have a tiny breed, and if they haven't caught before 3 years, they are spayed. I understand that there are breeds fine to have a first pregnancy at 3 years, but most definitely not my breed.
I sppose it depends on the dog. I think I have the same breed as Maria, personally I wouldnt breed a bitch for 1st time at almost 5, a lot do have whelping difficulties anyway and sections are quite common for some reason. I'm sure I was told a few years back our club reccommended 4 as a cut off for a 1st litter but as the code of ethics has changed a few times there is nothing there now about it. Saying that I left my girl until after her 3rd Birthday as she just wasnt mature in my eyes. Thats the trouble, it is a very slow maturing breed but they seem to reach maturity and then start to age rapidly.
I personally wouldn't use the CHV vaccine again. I did once and it caused me more trouble than it was worth.
the same things just happened to me , had blood test done , 2 good matings, my girl showed all the signs of been pregnant , but nothing on the scan. this is the 2nd time it's happened with the same dog, , i'm in 2 minds if to try again or have her spayed , she had 2 litters before with no problems at all it's a mystery to me what is going wrong,

After two misses I would definitely try another dog. Even if the dog is fertile they might just not be compatible for some reason.
>Even if the dog is fertile they might just not be compatible for some reason.
That was definitely my experience. Misses on 3 successive seasons (matings with good ties each time) to a fertile dog, but a very nice litter when I finally used a different dog.
thats what i have been thinking, i just so gutted because i had to tell people yet again and 1 persons been waiting for 2 yrs, at least i have a few months to think about it,
