we have a 9wk old mini schnauzer who has a bad dandruff problem! we have bathed her in medicated shampoo which we brought from a pet store,if we continue with this shampoo is it likely to clear up,and is this a common problem in pups?

My one Boston terrier had dandruff, I washed him with medicated shampoo to control dandruff and itching ($9.99 a bottle) and directions to leave on for 10 min. Then I would dry him with a towel and rub a little canola oil on him through his entire coat (like we would with lotion). Only after a bath (I only bath them once every six months or so). Well the dandruff is gone, works like a charm.

We have Staffies and they can be prone to "dandruff". We find for pups that the best shampoo is L'Oriel For Kids. My personal favorite is the Burst of Cherry Almond. Gentle on the skin and is a 2 in 1 with conditioner, smells great too. We also use it on adults when we bath them before a show.

I just use a shammy cloth and wipe them down, unless they are really dirty then I have to give them a bath

Hi Simo,
Sonny had the same problem when we first had him at 8 weeks. This continued and when we switched him to raw food for other reasons it completely cleared up! May have been coincidence but I have read of others on the board with similar experiences.

Holly is on raw food at precent and we are going to stay with that for the moment so that may help. We also give her garlic tablets,SA37 powder and moult. It seems to be worse on select areas like ears rear legs.I shall give the breeder a quick call plus she is due her booster in the next few days so we will see if it is anything to worry about when she visits the vets, thanks for all of your coments simo.
Hi Simo, if Holly isn`t 100% healthy when she goes for her booster it may be best to wait till you have the dandruff cleared up.
