morning all, day 54, puppies active and tilly all fine.
my question is the puppy wormer which i want to order in.
i got panacur granules from the vet for tilly and it is very expensive and someone on here told me to go to hyperdrug in furture.
so, i have the brochure and there are lots to choose from, it is for toy breed, so anyone know the dose we would need??? dont want to buy the wrong thing, and tempted to get it from the vet so know its right, so throw that advice my way please :-)

The box that Panacur 10% comes in, has all the information that you will need, printed on the box. Study it very carefully.
There are dosings for adults, dosings for puppies, and dosings for pregnant bitches . All totally different.
Has your bitch been given Panacur since day 40?

Just to add that, with a toy breed, you will need very, very accurate digital scales for weighing pups prior to worming.

hi jean,
yes she has had since day 40, half a satchet a day as presecribed by the vet, sdhe doesnt like it so having to disguise it in chunks of chicken. ham or tuna, she takes it then.
i will order some 10% panacur then.
I have digital scales i bought for baking but are perfect for the puppies, as very accurate and small.
Anything else you could recommend i need?? think ive bought enough to whelp 10 litters and covering every eventuality hehe.
oh, just need glucose powder and bulb aspirator then think im done.

I actually have 2 for exactly this reason! When it comes to working out doses for my smallest breed, it is so necesary to be accurate. On their first worming course it can be as little as 0.02ml but I won't use 2.5% as I don't see the point in struggling to administer a 4 times in quantity dose.
I rarely use an aspirator, but that's just my age, as in the olden days we always used the flick method. Old habits die hard! :-)
I assume that you have obstetric gel? It's a godsend.
Hi lare73 I've got the panacur 10% from the vet in the liquid. She said would be fine for the pups too. I just saw it in the hyperdrug catalogue and its 14.99 my vets charged me £23 can you believe?!! I'll won't be getting it from there again.
i never buy from vets way to expensive,i get though 3 bottles when worming my girls in whelp and then anougher 2 for pups lol.

And breeding is so easy peasy, you just let them get on with it!
I have a tiny breed, and know how I get through Panacur. You can tell the people that breed to make a bob or two! I'm so glad that you mentioned the cost of one tiny part of breeding.
Years ago someone told me that all their pups were wormed (they were so proud) with "that syrup stuff from PAH!"
It's amazing how little BYB's know about rearing litters, and you can see why folk think we are raking it in, cos her down the road is selling £100 cheaper!!!!! :-(

its a shame jean, i want to show my pup that i am keeping from the litter, we think there are only 2 maybe 3 so not in it for the money, it costs a lot to prepare, research and be a responsible breeder, i have been researching for 2 1/2 years prior to my decision to actually do it, it take 110% committment and there is no price tag for the anxiety and lack of sleep.
My girl has a week to go, she was very restless last night, pacing around, think shes getting ready, it is a long road when breeding, i am learning all the time and hope i am successful for my girls sake not my purse! :-)

Which means that she could feasibly whelp now!
:-) :-) :-)
JeanSW your so right there is no way some breeders would breed if they spent the amount of money that should be spent. I read one of your replies earlier about about the dopram v. We buy all what is necessary even if if doesn't get used.

It amazes me how many new breeders are not prepared for every eventuallity and say they will need to go out and get something as basic as puppy milk and bottles if things don't go to plan, who wants to be going out shopping when you have a new litter on the go.
