Topic Dog Boards / General / Poo deterrant?
- By bestdogs Date 30.03.11 12:41 UTC
I live in a small village and over the last few months we have been suffering from a minority of people failing to 'pick-up'. All the usual methods of persuasion have been tried, with some measure of success, however, one med sized culprit persists (know it's the same one by the poo!) in leaving his calling card in the entrance to my recessed gateway, on a daily basis. I haven't been able to catch him/owner in the act.

Please, does anyone have suggestions as to what I could safely use to spray the area, in an effort to persuade this dog to perform elsewhere? I have tried spraying the whole area with a dilution of disinfectant and he couldn't care less!  It now smells like a sheep-dip in my gateway!  I know it is a small niggle in the scheme of things, when so much is wrong in the world and feel I am probably turning into a grumpy old woman..........but Grrr! :)

What about just making a sign to put on your gate saying,     Please do not let your dog toilet here! :-)

Already had that in place for some months, along with a box of clean poo bags! :) Little beast- he won't use them! :)

Ok, Plan B - Pop down to your supermarket, get some chillies, boil in a pan of water, let it cool then spray on your drive and along the sides, should put the little blighter off going in your gateway. :-)

You should just try bloomin' living where I live...!

Anyone walking by would think MY GATEWAY is the Universal Dumping Ground .......for everyone elses C*RP...!!

Oops sorry I meant CR*P....! :(

Sounds a good one! I don't want to sting his nether regions though- do you think the aroma will prevent him 'going'?

He should take a couple of sniffs and think, no way, not going there! For toilet training we use non bio powder to eradicate where a pup has been before and then teach them to go somewhere else, but that may well not work in your gateway as he will be quite happy to make a fresh start there whilst out on a dog walk especially if he is used to going there, only a smell very distasteful to his heightened smell will make him move on.

It won't harm his nether regions as it is in diluted liquid form absorbed into your gateway. The aroma should stay for a day or two. ;-)

Thanks Carrington, will certainly try your suggestion. I too use  Non Bio washing powder/ liquid for puppies little puddles etc, but not much use in this instance.

I live in a cul-de-sac and we have a horseshoe type of road around us. This is obviously used for the late night walk for some dog owners. As I leave the road I often find dog poo on the corner as we turn onto the other road. It hasn't happened just recently but I have decided to make a sign and laminate it reading, "Please clean up after your dog or have it returned via your letterbox". (not sure if someone on here suggested it!) We don't know who it is but they don't know that so hopefully will think that they have been seen.

I had the same problem and still do sometimes.

I set up a thing in our local parish mag called Poo Watch.

It went on to explain about people being more aware of people who blatently didn't pick the poos up and should start to report people who we all knew were the persistant offenders. Last sentence said "Nobody can hide we are all watching you and we will not hesitate to report you ! '

Combined with some laminated flyers which the PCSO provided after I walked them round the worst areas to make them more ware if they did their rounds the poo did decline although didn't stop completely.

I ahve also caught a few people in the act outside my house and have marched out and thrust a bag into their hands and stood there saying unless they oicked it up I would report them . The shame on their faces was priceless !! :-D

Brilliant LJS!  I particularly like  'Nobody can hide we are all watching you and we will not hesitate to report you ! '

My laminated notice by my gate says   'If your dog poos here- please pick up!  Keep.............. Village clean,
Thank you and a big smiley'. A lidded box of clean poo bags is beside it. We have done the parish mag bit PCSO etc, with some measure of success, now seems to be one particular owner!

Have bought a selection of chillies including scotch bonnets, about to boil 'em up and make my next deterrant spray!:)
