Only have two and as much as I love them couldn't cope with more. Am I right in thinking they have more than 20?

Okay okay as I want to go to bed :) , there are currently 16 dogs living permanently with us. Ages from 5 months to 11 years. 6 are toys, the rest large (5 Papillons, 1 Cavalier, 7 Malinois, 1 Golden, 2 crossbreeds) -they live in a few different groups, 2 for instance live permanently with my mother in law in her granny fault, but the ultimate responsibility for them lies with me and my husband. There are however four of us living here (adults), with my almost 16 year old daughter being here every weekend (and she helps a LOT -for instance does all the bathing of the toys, does a lot of walking, show handling etc, comes to training classes), so apart from MIL who is disabled, there are always people around for walks etc. :)  It's the most I've had at any time. Oh and I probably have a pregnant bitch too which I plan to keep a pup from if there is a nice bitch. The dogs are all family members (a step up from a pet LOL! ;) ) that have various other roles as well! Some are shown, plenty go to training classes, some have competed in obedience in the past, some I hope to compete in obedience with in future. The majority have at least their GC Bronze, several have silver and gold. The aim is for ALL to gain at least bronze.

I always said, for decades in fact, never any dogs in the bedroom so I can't QUITE explain why, when I set off for bed now, Ripley the Malinois and Ginny the Papillon instantly jump up and follow me into the bedroom as they do every night. Not sure how that happened!!! ;)

Edited to say: We don't use kennels, the dogs live in the house, apart from for Z my big male Malinois who unfortunately has to be kenneled as he doesn't get on with my other male dogs and he doesn't get on with cats. He's the exception to the rule though and we try to give him extra amounts of walks etc.

(PLEASE don't ask how many cats I have!!!!!!!)

5 currently, most was 6 and a half.. when I had a foster greyhound and a part time foster yorkie x (she spent some of the week here with me and some of the week two doors down with my best friend until we found her a home).

It works because of the mixture of dogs, though i have to say if i had just deerhounds we'd have about ten.... and if i could only have tibetan terrier we would probably just have two! (If they are ALL like Errol we would have um, none!).

They are all family members (snort. not just 'pets'!), though I don't breed and currently don't show, even if that changes they are still family members first! They all live in the house too (mostly in my bed!).

I have 4 dogs just now, had 5 last year and the most that have ever been in this house was I think about 15 but those included my Mums chinese cresteds (and you get about 8 of them to a 'real' dog) :-D

I don't ever know how many I've got.... :)

I only ever know them by their faces.......and the light in their eyes.....

Mind you I've always been rubbish at Maths.....and find it simpler if its to do with 3 6 and 9....makes more sense somehow... :) Plus the fact I never know what day it is either....let alone what time it is....... :)

The most we have ever had at any one time was about 25, although 8 of those were welfare fosters that we had to take on and assess until homes were found for them.
At present we have 12 (I think) plus a couple of semi-permanent rescue fosters.
They are all Siberian Huskies apart from the Leonberger and the Shiba Inu.

I have 2 - and feel slightly light headed at the thought of you all with more than 2, you must be mental lol!

If I could have a hundred of my Murphy I would, but one of Maddi is more than enough!!

I'm feeling quite restrained (or should I be restrained??) for only having the seven :)  But I do have plans to increase the number :) :)

Having said that, five of them are aged nine (well, almost) to just 13. And I am lucky enough to live on a farm and only work 3 mornings a week, so plenty of time and space for them all. They are all much loved family members who loll around the house, sunbathing in the conservatory or lying on the furniture or by the fire - as appropriate.

Drat -I hope you keep 3 pups to overtake me. :) It was kind of comforting to know somebody with MORE dogs. :D (Then again my smallest does only weigh 1.8 kgs so REALLY she should only count as a quarter of one at most -shouldn't she???!!!)

sorry, only keeping 2 pups.. well...thats the plan ... so far :-O   It would have been 3 if all had gone according to plan with Nora ;-)

We've got 8 at the moment.  7 Large Breeds and a Terrier.    Age ranges from 13.5, 11, 9, 2 @ 5.5 years, 2 @ 11 months and a 6 month old :) 

Dont need a doorbell thats for sure :)

Ok at the moment I am at my highest so far - 11 - 2 GSDs, 5 collies (lost one in January, sadly), and 4 shelties, plus 6 pups 2 of which are staying.... they all live in the house, but split into a couple of groups.  I have a big van and we go to agility shows through the summer, I spend my time competing, walking, walking, walking, feeding..sleeping...walking but that's my social life :-)

i have 13 i know don't faint!!!!
they all play and run together with never any problem with my 9 GSDs being below in pack order to my daughters chi and a mini jack really funny to watch big dogs listening to the dinky toys!!

Thank you chaumsong.  I was beginning to feel as if I was peculiar, having more dogs than anyone else.  (And too frightened to admit to it!)

Now you have reassured me.  As I only have 3 large dogs, the rest don't count.  I feel so much better for knowing this.  :-)

However, this does include non breeders too.  I kept a stunning boy to show, but he grew into a giant, but they stay if I get it wrong!  I have several girls that only ever had one litter before being spayed.  They stay as "aunties."

But when you see a really huge dog bed - for my largest Beardie - with a couple of Yorkies, and 9 Chi's in it, it doesn't look many at all!

Yep me too...a few aunties and uncles here lol. 18 was the most last year...now sadly down to 15 in total....only i cant quite get away with saying some of mine dont count with my smallest dog being 35kg. Cant move from one room to the next without tripping over a dog and if i get off the sofa for a minute....i've well and truely lost my space LOL :)

See!!!  I'm allowed at least 40 dogs of the toy size, so have yards more to go yet!  :-)

Yes and I have 6 toys so really only have ten dogs and a bit! Maybe we should count it in worming pills? I need 27 and three quarters to worm my lot. :)

4 here....7yr, 6yr, 3yr & 7 mths. This is the most we've ever had & is def. the limit.

I am retired, and when I was working, the most I ever had was 2, and lucky enough to be in the position for them coming to work with me

grooming is not an issue with my breed, short thick coats require a good horse brush and a swim in the river covers the washing :-)  Walking them takes more time than anything else I do... but again, lucky to be living very rural, river alongside house, and 20ft from the woods, hills and fields at my back door, and super farmer neighbours allowing me to use empty fields for running off steam :-)

Well, I live alone, and the magic fairy just won't pay the mortgage.  :-(  So I have no choice about working full time.  I would dearly love to be with my dogs all the time, but someone has to keep the roof over our heads.  And the feed bill is high!

I am really lucky, as my dog sitter lives in an upstairs maisonette and has no garden, so can't keep a dog.  And he is more than happy to wallow in mine all day.  As they all live in the house, I wouldn't want them barking all day, and neighbours complaining.  Both sides have dogs fortunately, so the odd barking at the fence means we take it in turns to call them in.  I am aware that I am very lucky to have neighbours that are dog lovers.

My sitter walks the 3 Collies and often puts them in the car and drives out to the forest, which they love.  Tom next door takes the Yorkies out, and the Chi's are stuck with me.  I bought the house for the outside space, it is a humungous area for playing in, and, being a mature garden (1930's house), has lots of mature shrubs, trees etc and plenty of hiding places for dogs to jump out at each other.  It also means that my turbo charged Border Collie can run flat out, with the Chi's in hot pursuit, and keeps them nice and toned.  They are allowed to be dogs, and play in the compost heap, and generally get muddy.  It means that larger dogs are not perceived as a threat and stops that snappy, yappy little dog attitude.

I work long hours, get ahead in my flexi, and take the days off to suit me.  And grooming is therapeutic.  I don't have poodles any more, but did have for over 30 years, so you do need to enjoy grooming with a few of the breeds that I love.

It just is not allowed.  I have both sexes, entire and neutered.

There are too many for me to put up with quarrels.

Any hint of discord, and they are told very firmly that, any growling to be done - and I'll do it.

If that's a lien of dogs and you have average lifespan then at least another two or three will be added to continue the line.

Not a bad life, grooming, walking and training.

I dont work and I spend my days with my dogs, waiting for hubby to get up and go to work..we have to be fairly quiet during the day and most of my time is spent taking them out for long walks etc after doing the quiet housework.

Was almost caught in a thunderstorm on there once with my dog. It's far too open and flat to be comfortable walking across during an electrical storm that's for sure. I lived more to the Easterly end :)

As I mentioned before, there are four of us living here -myself, my husband, my adult stepson (aka the cuckoo -won't leave!) and my mother in law. My husband and stepson work fulltime in the same place. My mother in law is elderly and disabled and I am her official carer, which means I am at home all the time when the men are at work. (She needs somebody here all the time, but she does not need constant help -is quite happy to be in her granny flat and watch TV etc with the two dogs that live with her, as long as somebody is always nearby to help out when needed. So I have plenty of time free.) We live in the countryside and have quiet country lanes for walks just outside the door and also the exclusive use of an approx. 10 acre filed belonging to a nearby farm. We fill the car with dogs (several shifts!) to take them up to the field for a good run offlead. Unfortunately I can't walk up there on my own as it's just too far and I don't want to leave MIL on her own in case she has a fall or something but shorter walks down the lanes I can do. (I don't drive.) My husband works shifts so it varies when he's at home. We try to go to as many training classes as we can when he's available. (Go to different ones with different dogs.) Go to a lot of shows at weekends and then my stepson is here and my daughter comes to the shows with us and to most of the training classes.

My husband usually says he has to go to work for a rest! He works in a warehouse so manual work and all his workmates relax when at home, sleep 8 hours a night, whereas he's always busy helping me groom cats, clean litter trays, going to dog training etc etc. He's one in a million. :)

i work for a lady who has 22 that all live in the house, 19 of a medium breed and 3 small.

My job is housekeeping the dogs.

Me to, when I came back to the Island some years ago I used to get very claustrophobic and would have to get off. So a trip over on the hover and an afternoon spent walking the common and parade! Wonderful.

I used to have to play lacrosse on the Common back in Ye Olden Dayes. The wind used to drive the hail hard against our blue, goose-pimpled legs; only the resilient survived because Miss Crombie didn't allow excuses such as hypothermia to detract from the games lesson.

When I was in the Army I had a friend who came from Southsea, she was born and bred there, we used to spend a lot of our off time weekends at her place and in the funfair "eyeing up" the sailors;), all that stopped when she got posted to Germany and I got posted to Ireland:(

Oh to be able to run around like that again, played them back in the 70's, thrashed every time.

I think climate change is at work then. We BBQ outside from April to Sept/Oct and the common is usually burnt to a sand colour by July.

Last year I took photos of our 30'dinosaur scultpure and posted to Facebook. So many people asked if it was on the beach....just burnt grass.

In the winter we do get huge waves crashing over the sea wall but the upside is we get the common to ourselves much of the time.
