Bit of a hard one here.

I am in the process of seperating from my husband and between us we do have a number of dogs, everything is very amiciable but I am at a point now where I need to move from our home.
My dogs are my world, they have kept me sane though all of this and Its been decided that I get to keep 2 of my girls. We didnt have kids but our dogs were our world so to leave 3 behind is going to be hard.. but i cant look after all of them by my self.

I am struggling to find places which allow dogs (medium working breed) and more so that is even affordable for me as my wages arnt great with out his topping mine up.  :(

Any suggestions.. I am based round the Wokingham, Berkshire area and need to stay in that area.  :(

You could try putting a 'wanted' ad in the local papers.  There may be a landlord in the area with a vacant property who may be prepared to consider a dog owner.

You caould also contact letting agents/landlords and ask if they would perhaps accept a larger damage deposit or agree to let to you if you pay to have the house profesionally cleaned when you leave.

I agree with the advert idea. This is exactly what I did twice. Each time I got a perfectly good house with generous garden. The house itself is what I would consider basic but comfortable...which suits me.No carpets or fancy trims to worry about...just a good old fashion kind of house. I have 5 dogs and both times I placed an advert I had at least 3 phone calls....the advert ran in several local papers and only cost about £10 for a couple of weeks.

I worded it this way:

Wanted 3-4 bedroom house with large garden or access to fields.  Must allow pets...references on request (I had ready the people in work and instructors at their good citizens class to attest to the good nature of my dogs) Long term tenancy for the right property (this appeals in areas with high vacancy rates)..
( I also put in price range I could afford)
Cheers

Hi askara :)

Sorry you are going through this - it must be so difficult.

I live on a working estate. In the last few months a farm cottage on the estate became available and I was approached by the Estate Manager as they had received an application from a lady (in the exact same position as you) who wanted to lease the property and who had 3 dogs. As I keep livestock, they asked me if I would be happy for her to be a tenant. The Estate Manager had met her and her dogs and felt she would be a responsible tenant and that the dogs were completely relaxed around livestock such as sheep/pheasant/cattle etc. I had absolutely no problem with this.

Rent is usually fairly low on farming estates. I know she pays £400 per month for a two bedroom detached cottage :) She and her dogs are an absolute joy to have as a neighbour.

So, perhaps a phone call around farming estates in the area? Explain that you have dogs and offer to bring the dogs with you so that the Estate Manager can be reassured that they are well trained and won't pose any risk to livestock. If you can, offer to perhaps pay an increased deposit to offer increased security to the estate. I know this lady did offer this but the estate didn't feel that was necessary. However, her even offering perhaps made a difference.

Good luck :)

I have recently rented my place out - with the agents I use unless the landlord specifically requests them to put on the ad "Pets Welcome" the agents write "No Pets" by default.  I would be surprised to find them the exception in this so there may be many properties currently listed where the landlord hasn't even been asked if they would consider pets - just that letting agents don't always ask and non pet owner landlords probably didn't think about it.  On the add I did put 'No Pets' but if someone asked they would have been considered on a case by case basis, so it may be worth speaking to letting agents and asking if they could check with the landlords of any house you are interested in if they would take two dogs.
