Hi all
I don't know if anyone can give me any help but thought I'd try.  I have been planning to mate my bitch on this season have spent months searching for the right dog and when she finally came into season I made arrangments to visit my vet and have blood tests etc to find the perfect day for mating.  We had a blood test done on day 10 which said she was way off and to retest in 5 days but to have a swab test done in between.  We did this and the swab tests said the same thing until last Tuesday when the vet said things were on the change and to blood test on Wednesday to get the right day.  We didn't do the blood test as we were leaving to go and visit the stud dog (we had the offer to use a cottage next to the stud dogs house for as long as needed - the dog's owner is also a friend). So we tried our girl with the boy on Thursday night, Friday, Sat and Sun, when I say tried the dog we introduced them, it very soon became obvious that nothing was going to happen.  There was no interest from my girl at all, she was snappy and completely uninterested so we didn't bother to push them.  Now thinking about this season she hasn't been flirty with my other girls either and the discharge had almost dried up when I first took her to the vet, the vet said not to worry as all seasons are different.  She doesn't look swollen anymore so looks as though she's finished, we have left the stud dog and come home as it looks as though we've missed our chance, although the blood test and swab test say differently!  Has anyone else had an experience with a season like this, is it possible the right day is yet to come?
Many thanks

I would say yes.
We have had a girl do this and only to come home and a week later she was flirting like crazy, so we took her back to the stud (8hr drive) and we had 3 good ties over a 5 day period.

Sorry to be a pain , but i do find in a lot of cases vets are not reading the results right and this results is a lot of mis timings as regards to the bitch being ready, hope that you are to early and the vet was right.

Yes I did!   Next season, I was so adamant that day 10 was too late to start testing, that the vet said, ok, let me know as soon as she swells.  I did, there was no blood, just swelling.  So we started testing right away.  She ovulated on day 4.   We would never have got the timing right by testing from day 10.

are you sure she's not had a split season, 1 of my girls bleed for 11 days then went out and come back in 2 weeks later we mated her and got 8 beautiful pups, just keep a eye on her,

Saw the vet today and she did a blood test to send away and a swab which she looked at straight away, from the swab test it showed that she had ovulated or at least the cells had gone back to near normal under the microscope small and blue.  So it looks as though we were with the dog at the right time but she was not prepared to mate with him.  The vet did say that sometimes the progesterone level is too low and that can cause the bitch not to mate.  I've had a look on the internet about split seasons I hadn't heard of them before, but don't think it will be one of these - but you never know!!

Oh well look I'll have to start planning all over again for the next season!!!

Sorry you've missed this season :(

Just wanted to say that one of my bitches ovulated on day 19 and was mated and subsequent litter was born, so dont worry too much if she doesnt ovulate until the very end of her season :)
