My bitch 's season lasted an incredible 38 days and she bled throughout the entire time - I had her progesterone tested and she was mated on days 28 and 30 - I held out little hope of her conceiving because of the lateness of her ovulation but have just had her scanned and we saw 9 pups with the due date taken from the second mating - is this a record - has anyone else had a bitch mated on day 30 ?
needless to say I'm delighted !
Yvonne

great news for you. my lab bitch bled for a full 30 days but as we weren't breeding her i didn't test.

I haven't mated my bitch this season but she only stopped bleeding 2 days ago and her season started on valentines day . I've never had a girl last this long . My guess is she will be a late ovulater like your girl.

I mating day 26 here, resulted in 8 pups!
Congratulations!!

Wow! That's quite something! Congrats and good luck!!!
Nope, not a record :-) Yep, mated through to day 32 :-D :-D

Nope, not a record Yep, mated through to day 32 Crikey ! - I think we can just throw the rule book out the window !! ....I've heard of more and more bitches ovulating very late and having extra long seasons -my own bitch was a late starter and did'nt have her first season until she was nearly 2 years old - I wonder if the two things are linked ?
Yvonne
My girly had her first season 1 week before her first birthday :-)

My girls are doing really weird things this year - long and rather scanty seasons - just don't know what's happening - HRT in the water supply???

Every bitch is different! When you go to fertility seminars, this is crammed home. What is good for one is not necessarily good for another; likewise the 'timing' for one will not be the same for another. Well done on doing the progs; amazing how many people still don't know about this! Good luck with the litter! :-)
Congrats Yvonne, i remember you posting the same time as me, i thought mine was late mated on day 22 and 24 after progest tests.

Whoop! Whoop!
So pleased for you. I once had a bitch (not planned) mate on day 28. Vet said no need to give the mismate injection as she couldn't possibly be pregnant.. Yeah! Right!
Wrong, she whelped no problems. And had also bled heavily all the way through.
Hi Yvonne, Interestingly Roxy - mated day 28 - also was a late starter: first season at 2 years old?
