Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / To Scan or not?
- By Finlay [gb] Date 28.03.11 10:22 UTC
I can't decide whether to scan or not :( We're on day 33/36 & I have puppy homes waiting to find out if my girl is in whelp, they've been waiting for this litter for ages. I promised myself I'd be cool & calm, but after 2 more calls over the weekend it's starting to get to me. I know it's my decision, just wondering what others would do in my situation. Thanks x

Yes go for it, i did and it put my mind to rest.  Just counting down now :) calm yes right ....lol

Worth scanning to confirm pregnancy. However do not rely on this with regards to numbers. The farmer who did mines had a very good reputation but was 50% out.Good luck.

Go for it.  Its lovely to see 9if anything there).  Don't go on numbers, then not disappointed.

Thanks for your replies, the only reason I asked is because I've been told bitches can reabsorb puppies due to stress. I don't want to put my girl through anything that would possibly stress her out. Vet visits are few & far between, only going for vaccs & I know what it's like as soon as we get in the door of the surgery... :(

I would my bitch was attacked by another dog and we were worried about
Re absorption it put our mind at ease however one vet said only one pup the other the week after because they wanted to show a student said no more than two. Si today she give birth to six! Omg lol so I would say get it done just so u know something is there lol

I scanned, but only to confirm pregnancy not numbers... I would rather know
- By Reikiangel [gb] Date 28.03.11 15:01 UTC
Well done.  Hope everythings going well.

We scanned about thirty days, and got what we saw, i was hoping some were hiding.

I do, but my girls treat a visit to the vet like a day out...no stress there! Nice to have the definate diagnosis.

I scanned twice, both times been 100% accurate with numbers. First time, only one and really useful to know, so we didn't overfeed etc.

we didnt scan  this time, waas going to on day 28 but decided against it,  today is day 50 for us and we know she is in pup, i have been feeling movement for the last few days and she has really 'popped' at the ribs
- By Finlay [gb] Date 29.03.11 12:41 UTC
Scan is booked for tomorrow at 1.30 :) I don't drive, so had to be sure Hubby was going to be available. Will update as soon as possible. Keep everything crossed x
- By Reikiangel [gb] Date 29.03.11 15:12 UTC
All crossed for you.  Might be worth finding out if they can give you scan pic, either printed there or email.

Hope you manage to get some sleep tonight.

Fingers crossed, good luck!

Had all the signs, clear discharge on days 19 & 27, pink erect teats, still slightly swollen vulva, but sadly there are no puppies. Gutted :(

Oh no, so sorry.
I have a girl on day 12 and she missed last time. I will be very nervous when she gets her scan done around the 20th April.
I really feel for you :-(
- By Reikiangel [gb] Date 30.03.11 14:49 UTC
Sorry to hear that.  did you use a vet or scanner.  Have they offered you to go back next week.  sometimes they don't show up the first time.  might be an idea to have a rescan next week.
- By ct1983 [gb] Date 30.03.11 14:54 UTC
we scanned our's and she has shown no pups but due to teats etc and how she is actin we are carrying on as though she is still pregnant as scans are not 100% accurate so we are just hoping they were hiding. Don't give up hope just yet...... hopefully you'll be surprised
- By cavlover Date 30.03.11 15:43 UTC
Have never scanned for pregnancy, you know soon enough, and I would rather not risk shelling out to be told no puppies, it's disappointing enough without paying for the privilage lol..
- By robbiem [gb] Date 30.03.11 16:11 UTC
took my bitch to vet at 30 days but she couldn't tell just by feeling her, so had her scaned at 40 days, because like you, we had people asking. could see ribs & beating hearts.AMAZING. vet wouldn't say how many though. This will be our first litter and am getting very nervous.
- By Finlay [gb] Date 30.03.11 16:32 UTC
Congratulations Robbie :) Yes they told us to go back in 2 weeks, but it's not a freebie, we'd have to pay again & I'm not throwing good money after bad. I'll watch & wait, but at day 38 I would have thought something would be visible. It was done at Vets & she scanned both sides & up as far as her Liver. I'll get over it...eventually. It seems the more I try to do things right, the more goes wrong. I'm going....the self pity will appear soon lol Thanks for all the replies. x
- By Reikiangel [gb] Date 30.03.11 17:03 UTC
It took my girl a few goes, so don't give up.
