five of my own & at one time I had three boarders through my work for the weekend, all my dogs are very sociable and do at various times have someone for a sleepover. they all sleep together in the kitchen.

I've got two living with me however I have got a Golden/Lab cross living with my parents back in Germany. She was too old to take her with me when I moved to the UK and it wasn't fair on her to take her out of her environment. She has a lovely retirement home and is now nearly 14 years old and still fit and healthy. I miss hear dearly and I try to go over to see her as often as possible.

The most I've had at one time, after all the puppies have left, is five. They ranged from 3 months to 15 years. :-)

I've kept up to 7 at one time when I wasn't breeding.
I don't count how many there are now. :-) :-) :-)

Although, they are all 100% pets. Whether used for breeding or not.

Come on, own up!!!
Max i have had is 4, but i have 3 at the moment with a 4th soon :D (hopefully!)

The most I ever had at one time was 8 and it's too many. I'm down to 6 at the moment due to the death of Duncan in August 2008 and Bailey in 2010 and it's still too many. I made the classic mistake of getting too many puppies too close together.
Currently my oldest is 12 and a half and my youngest 3 and a half, but the others are 11, 10 and 8 years old (two of). I do plan on more, but with a minimum of 4 years between. In future i think 4 is an ideal number with 4-5 years between. So I'll be looking for the next one in 2012. By then Rory will be getting on for 5 years old and I'll probably have lost another 1 or 2 of the current gang, sad though it'll be.
Mine are all pets but they have also all been shown at some time, and I have never 'pet homed' any dog that didn't win well. Mine is a forever home.

the most i have ever had is 11 which is now ( must be bonkers ).

Who is going to crack first ??? :) :) :)
Me - I have two. Can't envisage having any more than that at any one time :) :)

8 here which is what I have now, all pets, I've never bred (and never will).
It's hard work and I am mulling over no. 7 should stay forever or not - there's the financial aspect as well as behavioural (her and River are VERY alike and it is causing tension). But for now I'm sticking with it :-)
Not sure I'd have 8 again although it depends on the mix - right now it's not good in terms of exercise (one building up due to arthritis/lameness, one needing lone walking due to FA, 3 needing a LOT of walks and the rest average) but I know it'll improve.
I'll likely not get any more until both Soli and Tia have gone, that I know.

A person in my breed has around 26 in the house-she has fantastic neighbours.
I must say that I could not manage that amount myself-I have 4 and I find that I can manage to walk all 4 together and take away with us.

2 is the most I've kept at once. I only have 1 now :(
My dream would be to have a nice large pack made up of:
A few English Mastiffs, a couple of Newfies, and couple of labs or retrieving breeds as it would be lovely to have a dog that actually wanted to do something! (as opposed to my couch potato-"if you want the toy so much fetch it yourself", Mastiff!)
5.
But they are all kept in the house and all hog the sofa.

With my new puppy (5 1/2 weeks old) I have 6, and they are definitely pets.
Ages 13 1/2, 11 1/2, 7 1/2, 4, 2 1/2 and 5 1/2 weeks.
The fourth and fifth are half sister daughters of the third.
I owned the oldests grandmother and bred her mother and all the rest.
I have four. I rescued one from a BYB last year, but I prefer three as pets.

I have 5 now, this is the most I've had. :-)
All live inside and are generally spoilt and although they are pets, we like to meet up with our friends at shows sometimes.
6 is the most I could cope with in my current house, but if we extended......well who knows. :-)

7 was the most when we had one back to reassess before rehoming, but I have 4 now and hopefully won't go any more than that. It is hard to handle all of them when my back is hurting (like now) Walks are a nightmare. If I had any more I would have to go out in shifts.

Getting back to the Marianne and Kay thing double figures .....= madness :-D

When I still lived at home with my parents , we had 17 !!!! ( 3 Weimaraners and 14 Papillons )
I prefer to stick to a more sensible 5 now .....

I went up to 5 for a little while but I knew when I had the 5th one that it would only be a fairly short time as my oldie was starting to struggle. I have recently gone down to 3 for the first time in 10 years. I like to keep about a 3 or 4 year gap between them but with agility you need to keep getting them! My youngest at the moment is 18 months so no rush for another one.

4 but for a reason, I try to have my dogs spaced out so that I have one retired, one in full work, one coming into full time working and one new pup who will be trained for work. that way they all follow on. They are also all much loved pets, so if one did not work out suitable for work or showing they are kept here for the whole of their lives.

I've got 4 at the moment and it's a lot of work. My eldest is nearly 11, got a 3 year old, 1 year old and 4 month old. Luckily they are getting on really well.
They are all PETS, though I show and breed very rarely.

I have 3 at the moment... 2 that I show, and one older girly who comes to watch sometimes, but prefers to snooze on the sofa. Definitely pets :-) I'm hoping to go up to 4 in the not-so-distant future, and I've got everything crossed that it won't be such a shock to the system going from 3 to 4, as it was going from 2 to 3!!!
I once had 5,but I found it a bit much,2 or 3,is easier to cope with,for me,anyway.My friend has 8 and 2 boarders!

Thank you so much--we are just waiting for the liver cake to cool down :)!

3 here, would have been 4 if we hadn't sadly lost Henry 3 weeks before Hetty was born. Hoping to make it 4 soon if I get my new puppy!

We have 4 and there will definitely be no more any time soon!

I could be in the same sort of bracket as marianne and kayc lol.
Just over a year ago was the most i had at once and that was 15. 11 rotts and 4 ddb, also with an extra 3 which are my mums dogs but they live in an annexe on the same property so 18 in all, very much loved members of the family and once i make a dog part of my family its permanant no matter what....I am fortunate enough to be able to be home with all mine everyday...but that many is HARD work...7 days a week, 365 days a year but i wouldnt want it any other way my dogs are my world :) Social life??? Whats that! :) crazy maybe....Absolutely

I think you are both cracked already :-) I was going to post the number for you both but lost count when I reached the thirties :-) :-)
Social life??? Whats that! :-)Shows and training classes LOL!!
I have four dogs at the moment and have had for the last 2 years. Four is hard work but I am home all day now and my husband is newly retired. We have a large garden and a spacious house. Three sleep at night in the kitchen and the westie sleeps in our room as she and the Greek hound don't see eye to eye. What gets me though is the arduous job of poo picking daily!!

:-O :-)

Might be safest if Kay and I never met up with ALL our dogs -we'd need a large space I think! Then again if MandyC came along we could have our own show. :)
