I Have some Runner Bean seeds and the date on the packet is 2010 they have been kept in the packet in a plastic container in the shed they were bought about 2 years ago
should I just throw them or will they still be ok to use

Try them - what have you got to lose? :-)

I planted loads of out of date tomato and cucumber seeds a few weeks ago in the conservatory and they've all come up. The use by date on the packets was 2006 so I think you'll be fine :)

I always soak them in water overnight before planting and, if you can, grow them in pots before planting out to avoid them being eaten :) :)
Thanks for the replies will give them a go then love runners so I'm hoping for a bumper crop .....I have no garden so have to grow them in pots and so far I've done very well with them, also done really well with small Cucumbers in pots too
Tomatoes have been my down fall for the last 2 years..... so I'm giving up on them for this year
Most seeds have a best by date, after that there may be some that don't germinate each year after that but you should still get some to, even after a few years.
Why not try the tomatoes bred for baskets? I think they're called tumbling toms? I think they're better than the ordinary ones for growing in pots etc
i am sure my granda grew upside down toms in a bag which he hung from a iron basket planter attached to the wall they may of been the tumbling toms and they where luverlllyyyy

Just bought some seeds now, looking forward to what transpires!
Hi have just looked at tumbling toms think I will give them ago but will buy the plant and not the seed ( can't keep failing with toms or I'll get a thing about em lol)
Having to restrain myself from starting early ....it's the good weather

I started all my seeds early (sown loads of summer bedding plants too) and for the past month have been carting seed trays into the conservatory in the morning and back into the warmer house at night, it wasn't too bad when they hadn't germinated because I could stack all the trays up, now they've all sprouted they are covering every surface in the house. My OH won't let me heat the conservatory at night to save the work, he's a meanie.
