my 19 month old scottie has begun biting. not just nibbling, but out and out biting. this is the third incident. he and out 11 year old cat have not gotten along since day one. i recently had to take her to the vet for a dog bite. the other day my daughter's friend was over. he had been here about and hour. had patted the dog and everything was fine. as i was holding him in my arms he suddenly grabbed the boys finger and would not let go. once i got the kid free, my dog lunged again and grabbed his hand causing him to bleed. my friend brought over her 8 week puppy about 2 months ago. my dog went after the pup biting me as i intercepted. the other day i went to pat him as he was resting and he came after me again. i will not own a dog that bites. we are walking on pins and needles. i do not want anyone in the house. he is a crated dog. now when company comes i put him behind a gate and he whines and whines but i don't want to take another chance. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If this is a very sudden change in his temperement I would take him to the vet to make sure there was no physical reason for him starting to bite.Best Wishes Gillian

Yes, definately take your dog to the vet asap, this does sound unusual. Does your dog not give any kind of warning, like a growl, or does he just bite?
Does sound like he could be in pain, or expecting pain?
