Our GR is currently having treatment for 2 rather sore hot spots on the base of her tail, we are unsure what has caused them as she is flea treated on a regular basis. They are causing her alot of discomfort and she is having to wear a buster collar the majority of the time which is making her very stressed. She has a good coat and is groomed on a daily basis , but I was wondering if there is anything people who may of also had dogs who have experienced this could suggest as a benefical supplement.Thanks.

Calendula cream works wonders.
Benzyl benzoate is very fast at sorting hot spots out but not sure what to use as a supplement. :(

My rott has had a few and I looked for a lot of options but didn't find anything that worked miracles. One of my neighbours uses tea bags and athletes foot powder on her dogs when they get them but I haven't used these methods myself. Some people think that diet plays a role in hot spots and cite grain as a problem but my dog was on origen when he got them and since switching to a food with grain in it he hasn't had them (touch wood, fingers xed etc).
I got a product from the vet that reduces the itch and this worked well when they are caught early as it stops the dog bothering the area.

I expect you have already thought of it or done it...but could it be her Anal Glands need expressing causing her to have the hot spots through biting herself as this will cause her to bite her bottom and tail area.
Just a thought.

Hi. I think it started as her anal glands, as we noticed some smelly brown fluid on the floor in the morning when we got up, the vet tried to empty them, but said that they had obviously emptied themselves overnight. She hadn't shown any symptoms that they were uncomfortable, but obviously her trying to itch had caused her to really irritate the skin. Thanks for the suggestions on products to use, I will bear these in mind if the vet treatment dosent work or if we see 1 appear again.
At the first sign of a hot spot, I use a diluted solution of hibiscrub several times a day and this works quickly.
I haven't had to go to the vets for years now. Using hibiscrub also helps prevent them having bad bald patches.

have had good results with sliver col spary and also witch doctor gel.

I was going to suggest collidial silver, both as an oral supplement and as a cream/topical spray.

Also Borix powder mixed with talc ( to dilute it), clears it up in no time. You can use neat but not if open. Hibiscrub in the morning.
